Memorial Set For Mark Bramble At Washington College

Mark Bramble, the American theatre director, author and producer died on February 20, 2019 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore following complications related to cardiovascular hypertension.  He was 68 years old.  His passing was reported by his long-time business manager and friend, Richard Koenigsberg.

Washington Ensemble Theatre has announced the cast for the Seattle premiere of Feathers and Teeth, the twisted horror comedy by Charise Castro Smith that grapples with the power of grief and the dangers of the other side. WET members Rachel Guyer-Mafune (WET: Teh Internet Is Serious Business, ACT: The Wolves, Book-It: Howl's Moving Castle) and Samie Spring Detzer (WET: Teh Internet Is Serious Business, Revolt. She said. Revolt again.) return to the WET stage to star as the creepy cool daughter/stepmother duo, Chris and Carol. Brandon J. Simmons (WET: Sextet, The Seagull Project: The Cherry Orchard, The Three Sisters) joins the cast as Arthur and James Schilling (ArtsWest: Peter and the Starcatcher, The Horse in Motion: The Great Noise) makes his WET debut as Hugo. WET's Associate Artistic Director Bobbin Ramsey directs. This is the second play by Castro Smith to be produced by WET; the world premiere of The Hunchback of Seville was the company's final play produced at The Little Theater on 19th Avenue East before moving to its current home, 12th Avenue Arts

Sound Theatre continues to prioritize the diversity of the human experience, and this season, titled UN-ERASABLE: From the Eyes of the Watched, is no exception. Two groundbreaking, Seattle premiere productions and a year-long reading series bring attention to the untold stories of our community. This July at the Center Theatre at the Armory, CITIZEN: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine will take stage, followed in August by as U.S. Premiere of PEELING by Kaite O'Reilly. This April, Maestro Mario Alejandro Torres and the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra present a program dedicated to a pair of composers who have stood bravely against oppression and canalized the importance of this message through their masterful works. Received with great acclaim at their premieres, Sibelius' Finlandia and Dvo k's Symphony No. 7 in D minor lived on to establish a legacy that immortalized the composers. The program will also showcase Emily Jeeho Park, winner of Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra's 2019 Young Artist Concerto Competition in a performance of Grieg's Piano concerto in A minor, Op. 16.

Velocity is thrilled to present Parts to a Sum (tentative title), Mark Haim's newest solo opus that premieres at Velocity April 5-13 in 2019. Haim has created work for some of the world's most celebrated dance companies including the companies of William Forsythe, Jose Limon and Nederlands Dance Theatre. Now in his late 50s, for Parts to a Sum Haim will connect 371 individuals across nearly 100 years and 20 countries. Specifically, Haim is gathering 371 "dance prayers" from people he has known through his exceptional international career, including friends, families, mentors, colleagues, students, and some of the most beloved dance artists from Seattle and around the globe. Performing this chain of movements from "oldest to youngest" (ages 93-2.5), Haim's performance ritual is a meditation on life and human interconnectedness.

Through a combination of theatrical text and original burlesque choreography, Noveltease takes you on a 90 minute adventure through some truly fantastic tales that must be seen to be believed.

Seattle Children's Theatre brings another classic book to life in their production of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The book by Kate DiCamillo tells the story of a china rabbit that is given as a gift to a young girl, Abilene, by her grandmother. The girl adores the rabbit and names him Edward. Edward, however, is only interested in himself and his own thoughts and fails to appreciate or connect with those around him. The grandmother who seems to sense Edward's aloofness, warns that she is disappointed in him, and that loving others is the whole point of existence. Through a series of events, Edward is separated from Abilene and spends years moving in and out of the possession of various people. Along the way he learns what it means to be loved and how to love others. Through chance or fate or maybe miracles, Edward is given the chance to love those who first loved him.

Over eight million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most successful theatrical horror events ever staged - and it's coming to shock Seattle next month. In the village of Crythin Gifford, the wind howls across the moors and fog creeps mysteriously around the town spires. At the edge of the village's cemetery, young lawyer Arthur Kipps glimpses the figure of a woman, garbed all in black, and is drawn into Crythin's cursed and haunted history. Susan Hill's gothic ghost story, The Woman In Black, comes to spine- tingling life in this cunning stage adaptation by Stephen Mallatratt that has left London's West End theatre-goers enthralled for more than 30 years. Director Robin Herford recreates Mallatratt's original staging from the London West End for this American premiere of the West End Production, touring the U.S. for the first time.

Based on the life of Hammond's aunt, Dr. Carolyn Beatrice Montier (aka "Bebe"), Returning the Bones brilliantly responds to one of life's most challenging questions: How do you choose between your country, your people and yourself? A surprisingly comical story, Returning the Bones transports audiences to Jim Crow-era Texas and into the life of a young, black medical student searching for her place in the world. This inspirational story brings us into intimate contact with the luminaries of the day including President Lyndon B. Johnson, Eleanor Roosevelt, James Baldwin and Queen Elizabeth. Returning the Bones runs March 28-April 14, 2019 at The Erickson Theatre on Capitol Hill.
