The company and band for Cry-Baby, The Musical played together for the first time at their Sitzprobe this week, as seen in a new video released by Arcola Theatre.

Arcola Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for its upcoming production of Cry-Baby, The Musical. The 17-strong cast is the largest ensemble for a production in the theatre’s history.

One of 2022’s most promising new voices Kings Elliot releases her new single and accompanying video, “Cry, Baby, Cry” (via Verve Forecast/Interscope). Now onstage through June 18 at Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre, Cry-Baby: The Musical (which played a brief 2008 Broadway run) is a riff on Romeo and Juliet that takes place during the age of polio vaccinations, Pinko Commie malcontents and the overzealous construction of flimsy, at-home shelters that promised protection from atomic blasts and somehow typified the Eisenhower era of the post-war 1950s.

Set in 1950s Baltimore, the conservative squares face off against the leather-clad delinquents in this rockabilly musical from the creative team behind Hairspray – Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell – featuring a score from Fountains of Wayne co-founder Adam Schlesinger and The Daily Show executive producer David Javerbaum.

Romeo and Juliet meets High School Hellcats in the hit summer musical coming to the stage of Clarksville’s oldest professional theatre. Based on the John Waters cult classic film, CRY-BABY: The Musical opens Friday, June 3, at 8:00pm.  In keeping with the theatre's pay-what-you-can opening night tradition, all tickets not pre-sold at the regular price will go on sale at 7:30pm that evening for a $5 minimum donation.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported Emmy and Grammy winner and Oscar nominated songwriter Adam Schlesinger has passed away from coronavirus-related complications. He was 52 years old.

BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge continues his journey with the latest  Broadway Rewind, which  takes the audience to Town Hall for the 4th annual ABC Daytime Salutes BC/EFA, but we start things off by meeting the company and bringing you a sneak peek at the Broadway musical Cry Baby, which is based on the hit John Waters film. It starred James Snyder, Elizabeth Stanley and Harriet Harris. Waters told me how he felt about being asked to turn one of his other hit films into a Broadway musical. 'I was thrilled because I had just had such a wonderful experience with Hairspray and to be honest, Cry Baby was the only real musical movie I ever made. Hairspray was a dance movie. The music in this is such a breath of new talent on Broadway.'

New Line Theatre, whose tagline is fittingly #MusicalTheatreAF, opens their 29th season with Cry-Baby, the 2007 musical with book by Mark O'Donnell & Thomas Meehan and songs by David Javerbaum & Adam Schlesinger.
