John Kander has won several prestigious awards throughout his career. These include the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre from the Drama League Awards, the American Express Tribute from the Helen Hayes Awards, and the Outstanding Musical Production award from the Olivier Awards for Chicago. He received the Best Musical award from the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards for Kiss of the Spider Woman, as well as the Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre for the same show. Kander also won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for Woman of the Year.
