Luke Thompson

Thompson began his professional theatre career in 2013 as Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare's Globe. He also appeared in Blue Stockings as Will Bennett that year. In 2014, he played Mark Antony in Julius Caesar at Shakespeare's Globe and James in Tiger Country at the Hampstead Theatre. In 2015, he appeared as Ithocles in The Broken Heart at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and as Orestes in Oresteia at the Almeida Theatre.

In 2016, Thompson narrated The Shepherd for BBC Radio 3 and Everyone Brave Is Forgiven for Simon & Schuster Audio UK. In 2017, he played Laertes in Hamlet at the Harold Pinter Theatre. In 2018, he played Edgar in King Lear, taking over the role for the West End production, and appeared as Riz in The Second Pan Book of Horror Stories: The Vertical Ladder and Malcolmson in The Second Pan Book of Horror Stories: The Judge's House for BBC Radio 4.

Thompson made his feature film debut in 2017 as a Warrant Officer in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. In 2018, he appeared as Edgar in the National Theatre Live recording of King Lear. He played Oliver in Making Noise Quietly in 2019 and Peter Hain in Misbehaviour in 2020.

On television, Thompson played Joshua Hallows in an episode of The Suspicions of Mr Whicher in 2014. From 2014 to 2016, he starred as Simon Lambert in the BBC One drama In the Club. In 2018, he appeared as Laertes in the television film Hamlet, a filmed stage production, and as Connor in two episodes of Kiss Me First.

In 2019, Thompson was cast as Benedict Bridgerton in the Netflix series Bridgerton. The series premiered in 2020, and Thompson has appeared as a main cast member since its debut. He took the lead role in the fourth series, released in 2026. He also appeared as Hiram "Harry" Bingham in six episodes of the Netflix miniseries Transatlantic in 2023.

Thompson returned to the stage in 2023 as Willem in the English-language stage adaptation of A Little Life. The production played at the Richmond Theatre before transferring to the Harold Pinter Theatre and Savoy Theatre. Thompson also appeared as Willem in the 2023 live recording of A Little Life. In 2024, he starred as Berowne in Love's Labour's Lost at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. In 2026, he played Georg Dreyman in The Lives of Others at the Adelphi Theatre.

His other film credits include Romeo in the 2016 short film The Complete Walk: Romeo and Juliet, Edgar in the 2018 National Theatre Live recording of King Lear, and Georgie in Elsinore in 2026.
