Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan began her career as a child model with Ford Models at age three, modeling for brands including Calvin Klein Kids and Abercrombie. She appeared in more than 60 television commercials for companies including Pizza Hut and Wendy’s, as well as a Jell-O commercial with Bill Cosby. In 1993, she made an early acting appearance as Chrissie in an episode of the television soap opera Guiding Light. She later played Alexandra “Alli” Fowler on the soap opera Another World, appearing on the series for a year before leaving to pursue film roles.

Lohan’s breakthrough came with Disney’s family comedy The Parent Trap (1998), a remake of the 1961 film in which she played identical twins Annie James and Hallie Parker, who attempt to reunite their divorced parents. Her performance earned her a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film and a three-film contract with Disney. In 2000, she starred opposite Tyra Banks in the television film Life-Size. She also appeared in the pilot episode of the television series Bette, playing Bette Midler’s daughter, but left the production when it moved from New York to Los Angeles. In 2002, she starred in the television film Get a Clue. That year, Emilio Estefan and Gloria Estefan signed her to a five-album production deal.

In 2003, Lohan starred opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in Disney’s comedy Freaky Friday, playing a teenager who switches bodies with her mother. Her performance earned her the Breakthrough Performance award at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards. She also recorded “Ultimate” for the film’s soundtrack. In 2004, she starred in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Mean Girls. The latter became a major commercial success and established her as a leading young actress in Hollywood. She received four Teen Choice Awards in 2004 for Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, including Breakout Movie Star, and won two MTV Movie Awards for Mean Girls in 2005.

Lohan launched her music career with her debut album, Speak (2004), released through Casablanca Records. The album reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and its singles included “Rumors” and “Over.” The music video for “Rumors” received a nomination for Best Pop Video at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2005, she returned to Disney for the comedy Herbie: Fully Loaded, the fifth installment in the Herbie film series. She also voiced herself in the animated direct-to-DVD film My Scene Goes Hollywood: The Movie. In December 2005, she released her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), which reached No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold. She co-wrote most of the songs and directed the music video for its single “Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father),” which became her first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2006, Lohan starred in the romantic comedy Just My Luck and appeared in Robert Altman’s ensemble comedy A Prairie Home Companion alongside Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin. She also appeared in Emilio Estevez’s drama Bobby, portraying Diane. The film’s ensemble cast received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. In 2007, Lohan starred in the drama Georgia Rule as a troubled teenager. She also appeared in the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, released that year, playing a stripper with a dual personality. Her performance earned her two Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Actress.

In 2008, Lohan appeared in the independent drama Chapter 27, which had been filmed in 2006, and released the single “Bossy,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. She also guest-starred in four episodes of the television series Ugly Betty as Kimmie Keegan. In 2009, she starred in the television comedy Labor Pains, which aired on ABC Family, and served as a guest judge on Project Runway. She narrated and presented the documentary Lindsay Lohan’s Indian Journey, which was filmed in 2009 and broadcast on BBC Three in April 2010.

Lohan appeared in Robert Rodriguez’s action film Machete (2010). She also filmed a sketch for the comedy film Inappropriate Comedy in 2010, although the film was not released until 2013. In 2012, she hosted Saturday Night Live for the fourth time, having previously hosted the show three times between 2004 and 2006. She also appeared as a celebrity judge in an episode of Glee and starred as Elizabeth Taylor in the television biopic Liz & Dick, which premiered on Lifetime in November 2012. In 2013, she appeared as herself in Scary Movie 5 and guest-starred in an episode of the television comedy Anger Management. She also starred in and co-produced Paul Schrader’s independent thriller The Canyons (2013). That year, she filled in for Chelsea Handler as host of Chelsea Lately.

In 2014, Lohan starred in the eight-part documentary series Lindsay, which aired on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network and followed her return to work after rehabilitation. She guest-starred in an episode of the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls and made her stage debut in the London West End production of David Mamet’s play Speed-the-Plow, portraying Karen. In 2015, she was featured on Duran Duran’s song “Danceophobia,” from the band’s album Paper Gods. She also filmed the independent supernatural thriller Among the Shadows in Belgium; the film was released in 2019. In 2018, she appeared in the second season of the Sky One comedy series Sick Note in a recurring role.

Lohan expanded her television and business ventures in 2019 with Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, an MTV reality series about her hospitality business in Greece. The series ran for one season. That year, she also joined the judging panel of the Australian edition of The Masked Singer, which premiered in September and concluded in October. In June 2019, she re-signed with Casablanca Records, a subsidiary of Republic Records. In April 2020, she released “Back to Me,” her first single in 12 years.

Lohan returned to major film productions with the Netflix romantic comedy Falling for Christmas (2022), playing a hotel heiress who develops amnesia following a skiing accident. Released in November 2022, the film featured original songs performed by Lohan, as well as her rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock.” That year, she also narrated Amazon Prime Video’s reality dating series Lovestruck High. In 2022, Netflix announced a deal for Lohan to star in two additional films for the streaming service.

In 2024, Lohan starred as a book editor in the Netflix romantic comedy Irish Wish, released in March. She also starred in Our Little Secret, another Netflix romantic comedy, which was released in November 2024. In 2025, she reunited with Jamie Lee Curtis for Freakier Friday, reprising her role as Anna Coleman in the sequel to Freaky Friday. Lohan is set to star in and produce the Hulu drama series Count My Lies, scheduled to debut in 2027.

Alongside her acting and music careers, Lohan has pursued fashion, hospitality and digital ventures. She appeared in fashion campaigns for Jill Stuart, Miu Miu, Visa Swap and Fornarina, including Fornarina’s spring-summer 2009 campaign. In 2008, she launched the clothing line 6126, which expanded from leggings into a full collection. She became an artistic adviser to French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro in September 2009 and left the company in March 2010. In 2020, she released a jewelry line in collaboration with UK-based boutique brand Lily Baker. In 2022, she launched a limited-edition sneaker collection with Allbirds, followed by an ocean-themed nursery accessories collection with Nestig in 2023.

In 2018, Lohan opened a beach resort on the Greek island of Mykonos and later opened a second resort at Ialisos Beach in Rhodes. Her digital ventures include the mobile game Lindsay Lohan’s The Price of Fame, released for iOS and Android in 2014, and the lifestyle website Preemium, launched in 2017. In April 2022, she launched The Lohdown with Lindsay Lohan, a podcast produced with Studio71 that ran through September 2022.
