Doug Haverty (playwright/librettist/lyricist/actor/graphic designer/producer)



Doug has written a couple dozen plays and musicals, most of which have been produced. Most notably, his musical (written with Adryan Russ) INSIDE OUT, played at The Cherry Lane. This six-women/no-set musical has been produced all over the country and overseas. Original Off Broadway Cast Recording (Originally on DRG) is now available at: www.kritzerland.com and the rights are available through Samuel French.

His play, COULD I HAVE THIS DANCE, won numerous awards, with its present top award being The American Drama Critics Association selection as BEST PLAY of 1991-92. This play is available through Samuel French and is included in the Otis-Guernsey BEST PLAYS OF 1991-92 anthology.

FRANCIS OF ASSISSI (with Bob Reynolds and David M. Strauss — Commissioned by EvenSong Associates); THE GHOST OF GERSHWIN (with Wayland Pickard and Laura Manning — Commissioned by The Group Rep); iGHOST (with Adryan Russ); and LOVE AGAIN (with Adryan Russ).

As an actor, Doug has appeared at THE FALLON HOUSE THEATRE, HOUGHTON LAKE PLAYHOUSE, CARNIVAL THEATRE, THE FALCON, THEATRE WEST, THE GROUP REP, THE HUDSON THEATRE, THE LYRIC, ZJU, among others.

Doug has produced: THAT LOVIN’ FEELIN’ (The Righteous Brothers Musical) and LOST IN YONKERS at The Group Rep; INSIDE OUT at The Grove Theatre Center/Burbank. He also co-produces KRITZERLAND AT STERLING’S UPSTAIRS AT THE FEDERAL.

Doug has designed for theaters and performing arts centers across the U.S. He has also created 400+ CD packages (soundtracks, cast, jazz, rap, and pop) for Universal, Warner Bros., EMI, etc. Doug has supplied event graphics for the Los Angeles Jazz Society, The Thalians, Associated Television International, LAPD, LAFD, the Grammys, baseball cards for “Weird Al” Yankovic and co-designed the coffee table book: The Ukulele: A Visual History for Backbeat Books.
