Review: SQUABBLES at New Theatre Restaurant
by Alan Portner - May 5, 2024
For those of you who feel the need for a light, fun evening of laugh out loud comedy and a delightful meal, let me recommend “SQUABBLES” a live comedy play that has Just opened at New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park. “SQUABBLES” is a light comedy with an unusually tight and experienced cast featuring Donny Most (from the old “Happy Days” sitcom) and an excellent group of mostly local actors.

Review: ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID at New Theatre Restaurant
by Alan Portner - Sep 26, 2023
A new production of a light comedy called “Always a Bridesmaid” is about a week into a three month run at New Theatre Restaurant. The show (by playwrights Jessie Joes, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten) is a frothy, light, and entertaining look into the lives of three female high school buddies from a Central Virginia town. The central attraction is TV and Motion Picture actress Morgan Fairchild as Monette, the many times married mantrap and her three long-time friends.

Review: STEEL MAGNOLIAS at MTH Theatre
by Steve Wilson - May 15, 2023
Padgett Productions, best known for ROCKY HORROR and EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, has stepped from its usual genres to inspire Kansas City audiences with the comedy-drama STEEL MAGNOLIAS, and Kansas City should be glad it has. What a fantastic show to bring to the main stage of MTH Theatre at Crown Center. STEEL MAGNOLIAS is a limited run through May 21.

by Alan Portner - Dec 8, 2021
“Johnny & June” at New Theatre Restaurant is an outstanding, original, tribute concert reminiscent of what TV audiences might have enjoyed at home between the premiere of the “Johnny Cash TV Show” in 1969 and the final “Johnny Cash Christmas Special” in 1985.
