New England native Ann Tracy has worked as a director, actor, writer and artist for over 30 years, with a 10 year hiatus as a radio news announcer, news director and journalist working in the Denver, Milwaukee, San Jose and Sacramento markets. She was the first female voice on the air at KTLK, Denver in 1977. Tracy was a theatre reviewer for Sacramento, CA radio stations KGNR and KXPR, the PBS affiliate (1984-86). As a child she lived in Fryeburg and Cape Neddick Maine until her family migrated south to Massachusetts and then west to Colorado. After over 25 years in the West, Tracy is grateful to be living in Portland Maine with her hubby and two cats.



Tracy was invited to sit on the judging panel of the STAR Gala One-Person show festival produced by Bacovia CITY Theatre, Bacau, Romania (April 2009) and was also a reader for the NEA’s New Plays Project administered by Arena Stage (2010).

As the founding artistic director of Beyond the Proscenium Productions in 1994, she has directed many original works and regional premieres for the company until it closed in 2009. Ann is the author of nine scripts, six of which have been produced in California. She was also artistic director and founder of the Foothill Actors Theatre in Diamond Springs, California (1992-1994).

As an actor, Tracy has appeared on stages in Northern California; Edinburgh, Scotland; Milwaukee, WI and in the movie George B. which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival; as well as the independent features Capital Women (PCS Festival 07), Anna’s Cross (Sacramento Film Festival 09), and Bitter/Sweet (David Ligon Films, Sacramento International Film Festival 12). She is also a featured extra in the film Bluebird which premiered at the Tribecca Film Festival (13) and was shot in Maine. Her recent film work includes Battered, Mrs. Smith, (Sophie Voltin, Cribstone Productions, Portland ME 2014) and Sui Generi, Detective Groeber, (Jenny Anastassof, Dark Farm Films) which premiered at the 2014 Damnationland Film Festival in Portland ME.


Tracy is an alumna of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab West (2003) and has done many workshops including those with New York’s Ensemble Studio Theatre (2000); Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers’ Viewpoints Intensive with Mary Overlie (1999 Post-Graduate credit); Ping Chong (1996) and Oregon Shakespeare Festival Directing Workshop, Ashland, OR, (1993 Post-Graduate credit). Ann has a BA in Theatre and Communications from Western Illinois University.

She has provided PR/marketing/graphic design consulting services to many small business and nonprofit organizations. She has served as president and treasurer of the El Dorado Arts Council (1990-94) and also served on the Metro Arts Commission’s Performing Arts Committee (1994-95). She is a member of the Dramatists Guild (NY) and the Professional Women Photographers Association (NY). Tracy is also a photographer and fine artist whose studio is at the Running With Scissors complex in Portland.
