Capital Repertory Theatre's NEXT ACT! New Play Summit Arrives June 7-10

The eighth annual NEXT ACT! New Play Summit, at Capital Repertory Theatre and Proctors, June 7-10, features readings of three full-length plays-Meridith Friedman's The Luckiest People, Rachel Lynett's Here Be Dragons and Deborah Yarchun's The Calm Before. The developmental workshop will also include the popular First 15; a Synopsis Clinic led by Dramatist Guild Member Aoise Stratford; two events featuring Young Playwrights; and, for the first time, a film screening.

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL) is pleased to announce that it will join other professional theater organizations from across the country participating in the eleventh annual presentation of "The Jimmy Awards", to be held in New York City on June 24th at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA), founded and produced by Nederlander Presentations, Inc. and Pittsburgh CLO, is a national celebration of outstanding student achievement that recognizes individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performances by high school students. "The Jimmy Award" is named in honor of James M. Nederlander, legendary Broadway theater owner and producer.
Mount Tremper Arts Announces Watershed Laboratory 2019 Season

Nestled in the Catskill Mountains, Mount Tremper Arts (MTA) is an artist-founded laboratory space dedicated to supporting artists in the creation and presentation of new works of contemporary art. Beginning on June 15, they will present eight new experimental performances-deeply rooted in collaboration and activism-through their Watershed Lab. Guided by the metaphor of the Catskills as the watershed for New York City, MTA serves as the artistic headwaters for works that are incubated through residencies and performances before traveling to presenting partners in NYC.

New Rochelle Opera Presents LA TRAVIATA

New Rochelle Opera, Westchester's longest running opera company, will present Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, from June 20-23, 2019 in the Frank J. Auriana Theatre at the Ursuline School, 1354 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. The production will be directed by Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola, with orchestra and chorus conducted by Brian Holman. The opera will be sung in Italian, with English supertitles.

Ancram Opera House Awarded $94,000 In NY State Arts & Economic Development Grants

The Ancram Opera House (AOH), an award-winning non-profit performing arts organization in rural southern Columbia County, announced that it has received grants totaling $94,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the NY State Regional Economic Development Council (REDC). The grants will be used to purchase theatrical lighting, new audience seating, fund a full-time Artistic Director, and develop two original theatrical works.

But, true to form, it's a pretty off-beat one: Joy Gregory and Gunnar Madsen's acclaimed Off-Broadway hit 'The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World'. Based on the true story of three sisters from rural new Hampshire whose father forced them to form a rock band, and who recorded an album back in 1969 which has since become a cult classic, 'The Shaggs' will play for eight performances only, Thursdays through Sundays July 11-21, in BST's intimate 84-seat Mainstage.
