Over the last ten years, Sol Dance Center has become the most diverse dance studio in Astoria, and has not only managed to survive the turnover of shops on Steinway Street but has doubled in size since they opened in 2009. The studio, which was founded upon the Latin and Classical roots of owner, Karla Choko, now offers over 10 styles of dance for children and adults including Belly Dance, Heels, Hip-Hop, Flow Arts as well as private lessons, wedding choreography and space rentals. To celebrate their success, the team at Sol Dance Center is hosting a special version of their yearly showcase on June 22, 2019 at the 800-seat Tony Bennett Concert Hall at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts titled 'Dancesanity: Creative Consciousness'.

RBTL's Stars of Tomorrow 21st Annual Recognition Ceremony, presented by Palmer's Direct To You Market, Sponsored by News 8 WROC, will be held on Thursday, May 16th, at RBTL's Auditorium Theatre in Rochester. Stars of Tomorrow is a program that celebrates high school musical theatre productions in the greater Rochester area in true Tony Award fashion. The ceremony will be hosted by WHAM 1180's Joe Lomonaco, and Ben Cameron, host of Broadway Sessions in New York City.
RBTL Announces Baked From The Heart: WAITRESS Pie Contest

In celebration of WAITRESS, on national tour in Rochester June 4-9, the Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL), in partnership with 13WHAM, announces a local search for a pie recipe from the heart. As pie is a key ingredient to the storytelling of the show, RBTL is seeking pie recipes, and the stories behind them, that mimic Jenna's whimsical creations. Bakers may submit a photo and the story behind their most creative, whimsical pie recipe - the kind of recipe that expresses your hopes, dreams, fears or frustrations - something baked right from the heart. Three finalist stories will be selected on May 24th to move forward to the taste-testing and recipe judging on May 30th. A panel of judges including 13WHAM News Anchor Norma Holland and chef Jerry Manley will choose the winning pie during a taste-tasting live on Good Day Rochester. The winner's recipe and story will be featured as an insert in the official WAITRESS cookbook during the Rochester engagement. The winner will also be featured on the RBTL and WAITRESS social channels, and will receive tickets to the show!

CRT Box Office Opens For Summer Ticket Sales On May 20

The Cortland Repertory Theatre Box Office will open for all summer ticket sales for their 48th annual season starting on Monday, May 20th.  The Box Office is located at 24 Port Watson Street in downtown Cortland, and is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays from noon - 6:00 PM.  Once performances begin at the Little York Pavilion, the Box Office at that location is open 90 minutes before show time, on performance days only.

27 Writers Of 9 New Musicals Announced For Rhinebeck Writers Retreat

Founding Executive Director Kathy Evans announced the 27 writers of nine new musicals for Rhinebeck Writers Retreat's summer weeklong residencies. This year's artists include Obie-winner Heather Christian, Kleban-winner Brian Crawley, TV and film writers Bekah Brunstetter (THIS IS US) and Cinco Paul (DESPICABLE ME), inaugural Stephen Schwartz Award winner Oliver Houser, and ASCAP Foundation scholarship winner Khiyon Hursey. The musicals cover a wide range of subjects. Four have LGBTQ themes: a historical look at Florida in the 1950s (IN A SUNSHINE STATE), a Palestinian/Israeli love story (BORDERS), a modern coming of age of a young black man (SEAN'S STORY PART I | THE AWAKENING), and a fantasy queer rock musical celebrating lady love (TL;DR: THELMA LOUISE; DYKE REMIX). Two are darkly comedic historical musicals: one featuring Mary Magdelene (A.D. 16) and the second a WWII plot to foil Hitler (OPERATION MINCEMEAT). Other subjects include the opioid crisis (ALMOST HEAVEN), the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 (THE GOLDEN SPIKE), and a mystery involving a woman with a sleep disorder (NARCOLEPSY).

This production is directed by faculty member Holly Thuma and features New York City based actor Carey Cox, who portrays the character Dierdre.
