BIO
Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor, known for roles in the films Scent of a Woman (1992), Boogie Nights (1997), Happiness (1998), The Big Lebowski (1998), Magnolia (1999), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Almost Famous (2000), Charlie Wilson's War (2007), Doubt (2008), The Master (2012), The Savages (2007), Synechoche, New York (2008), and Plutarch Heavensbee in the Hunger Games series (2013-2015). He won an Oscar for his performance as Truman Capote in Capote (2005), and made his film directorial debut with 2010's Jack Goes Boating.
He received Tony Award nominations for his performances in True West, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and Death of a Salesman on Broadway. His Off-Broadway credits include Jack Goes Boating, The Seagull, The Author's Voice and Imagining Brad, Shopping and F******, Defying Gravity, and The Striker.
He has also directed and served as artistic director for several Off-Broadway shows at the LABrynth Theater Company, including The Little Flower of East Orange, Unconditional, A View from 151st Street, School of the Americas, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Sailor's Song, Guinea Pig Solo, Dutch Heart of Man, Our Lady of 121st Street, The Glory of Living, and Jesus Hopped the A Train.
Hoffman passed away on February 2, 2014 of combined drug intoxication, after a relapse following years of sobriety.
