New Film THE DOG Opens in NY 8/8 and LA 8/15
by BWW News Desk - May 31, 2014

Coming of age in the 1960's, John Wojtowicz' libido was unrestrained even by the libertine standards of the era, with multiple wives and lovers, both women and men. In August 1972, he attempted to rob a Brooklyn bank to finance his lover's sex-reassignment surgery, resulting in a fourteen-hour hostage situation that was broadcast live on television. Three years later, John was portrayed by Al Pacino as 'Sonny,' and his crime immortalized in one of the most iconic New York movies of all time, Dog Day Afternoon. The Film had a profound influence on Wojtowicz (who pronounced his name 'Woto-wits'), and when he emerged from a six-year prison sentence, he was known by his self-imposed nickname: 'The Dog.' BWW Reviews: Stratford's KING LEAR
by Mary Alderson - May 29, 2014

Love between parents and their offspring should be Unconditional. As soon as King Lear puts conditions on the love of his daughters, his life unravels: he goes mad. But what really drives him crazy? Is it remorse resulting from his bad decisions? Is it stress, worrying about his daughters? Or is simply old age - dementia or perhaps Alzheimer's? Colm Feore has blended all three, in a gritty portrayal of Lear. One of Shakespeare's tragedies, this play opens the 2014 season at Stratford Festival. Feore is impressive as Lear with an equally good cast in this superior production. (more...)

Teresa Blondo Announces New Book in Paperback, Kindle eBook, and Audiobook Formats
by BWW News Desk - May 28, 2014

Author, Teresa Blondo has released her first book, 'Anchored: Pressing On by Pressing Into the Savior.' In her book, Blondo shares her story of God pursuing and providing, learning to take hold of her own discipleship, and the importance being in Christian community. The book is available in paperback, Kindle ebook, and audiobook formats. Praise for Anchored: 'You'll come away with a renewed sense of what it means to be anchored to Christ.' - Tyler Greene, Associate Pastor of Worship Ministries, LifePoint Church, Ozark, Missouri 'Anchored tells the beautiful tale of God's undeniable grace and Unconditional love drawing us from fear to faith.' - Seth Shelton, Lead Pastor, The Way Faith Community, Springfield, Missouri 'This book is more than her story. It is His Story-God's Story-woven all throughout the pages.' -Heather Gilion, Co-author, Dancing on My Ashes: learning to love the One who gives and takes away 'Refreshingly honest! Teresa gets to the heart of where a lot of people are with routines and chasing after everything looking to fill the void.' - Sandy, Amazon Reviewer About the book: For thirteen years, Teresa spent her Sundays in church pews. She joined small group after small group and moved from church to church, but it didn't bring her peace. She was pursuing social acceptance and friendship rather than pursuing God. Have you ever felt like you were trying to find spiritual fulfillment in people rather than Christ? Or maybe you have found yourself thanking God for His provision one day and forgetting it the next. In her book, 'Anchored: Pressing On by Pressing Into the Savior,' author Teresa Blondo shares her story of fitting in, and facing hardships, and how God used these times in her life to draw her to real discipleship. You will find comfort in her honesty about her 'patterns of forgetfulness' and her struggles with finding satisfaction in Jesus. Allow her to encourage you to take hold and press into the Savior. Target audience: Anchored will appeal to new Christians, 'marginal' Christians, and anyone who is struggling with finding satisfaction in Jesus, having difficulty in connecting in Christian community, or finding peace and joy in Christ while life storms around them. Anchored is for anyone who needs encouragement and a practical picture of what it looks like to really, for the first time, dive in and press into Christ. 'On February 5, 2012, I wrote just one line in my journal: I feel like I have already lost the awe and wonder of the cross, just one month after Christ saved me. My faith and my trust were weak. God is faithful, and His faithfulness is not dependent on the strength of my own faith. When my faith is at its weakest, it is enough. When my faith is as strong as Paul's, it is enough. Prone to wander and quick to forget, my own faith and faithfulness can all too easily do a one-hundred-eighty-degree turn into faithlessness. God has grace for that! He is enough!' A quote from 'Anchored: Pressing On by Pressing Into the Savior' -Teresa Blondo About the Author: Teresa Blondo is a freelance writer in Springfield, Missouri. Born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Teresa moved to Springfield shortly after graduating from Northern State University. She is a member of LifePoint Church in Ozark, Missouri, where she serves in the KidLife preschool ministry and other areas. Anchored is her first book. • List price: $9.99 • ISBN: 978-1497415058 • 1497415055 • AIN: B00J5HAE2I Available locally at CPO Books, 4145 S. National Avenue, Springfield, MO, 65807. BWW Reviews: GCT's MUSIC MAN Brings Verve, Nostalgia and Hope to Valley Audiences
by Don Grigware - May 20, 2014

What do the 1950s have in common with 1912? Ages of innocence, both. When Meredith Willson wrote his story with Franklin Lacey about a con artist bamboozling an Iowa town in 1912, which formed the substance of his musical The Music Man (1957), the effect became like that of N. Richard Nash's The Rainmaker. People were jubilant, ecstatic and welcomed Professor Harold Hill, as they craved a good old-fashioned love story coated with ironic excitement. He was a charmer, and they saw way past his bad side. Now in a jubilant new production at GCT, the company pulls out all the stops and yet presents a delightfully down.to.earth show that keeps the flavor of Meredith Willson in tact. With fast-paced direction from Valerie Rachelle and a terrific cast led by Brent Schindele, The Music Man offers a refreshing look at the way life should be. (more...)

HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME Producer Raising $5M to Keep Show Open
by BWW News Desk - Jul 10, 2014

Broadway's Holler If Ya Hear Me opened to mixed reviews last month, but lead producer Eric L. Gold won't let that affect the show's open-ended run at the Palace Theatre. He recently told Variety that he hopes to raise another $5 million to keep the new musical open until ticket sales improve. When asked how long the show will remain, Gold told Variety: 'It's week to week right now. It can't tell you if it'll be two weeks or two months. It's an expensive game, and I'm the guy carrying the load financially. I made a rookie mistake by underestimating how much capital was necessary, but I'm tenacious.' (more...)
