Each year, the Tonys set aside a special Lifetime Achievement honor for a artists of great distinction within the theatre community. This year's honoree is one of the greatest stage and film actors of his generation, James Earl Jones.

TheaterWork's production of the musical "Next to Normal" led the nominations for the 27th annual Connecticut Critics Circle Awards event to be held Monday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart University's Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts in Fairfield.

Broadway In Detroit will join with The Maple Theater & Kitchen in Bloomfield Township to present a Tony Awards viewing party on Sunday, June 11 starting at 6:30pm.

CUNY TV will salute the upcoming 2017 Tony Awards with a new TONY Preview Special on ARTS IN THE CITY, plus a new 2017 TONY Predictions episode and a new TONY Time Critics panel, both on THEATER TALK. In addition, CUNY TV will present a marathon showing of THEATER TALK 2016-17 episodes and other programs related to this year's Tony nominees - all leading up to 8pm on June 11 when the annual TONY AWARDS Ceremony begins on CBS.

Just last night, the 73rd Annual Theatre World Awards Ceremony was held at The Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street), current home of The Great Comet, recipient of 12 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical.

The 62nd Annual Drama Desk Awards, hosted by Michael Urie, were held at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street) just last night, June 4th.

Theatre industry, media and academic research in the last decade have uncovered and reported on the sometimes shocking levels of bias against female playwrights. Many professional theatres have committed to take action and demonstrate gender equity in their programming. 

On May 3, the 2017 Tony nominees flocked to the Sofitel New York, where they met with the press for the first time since getting the big news.
