2025 AWARDS SEASON

The Outer Critics Circle (OCC), the official organization of writers on New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications, have just announced the nominees for the 71st Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, honoring the 2021-2022 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.

Earlier today, the Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Artistic Director; Bevin Ross, Executive Director) announced the 2022 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Play, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. Honoring achievements on and Off-Broadway, the nominations were announced this morning by Denée Benton and André De Shields at the official announcement event held at the New York Library for the Performing Arts.

Tony Award Winner Adrienne Warren (TINA: The Tina Turner Musical) and three-time Tony Award Nominee Joshua Henry (Carousel) will announce the 75th Annual Tony Award Nominations on Monday, May 9, 2022.

The Drama League today announced the 2022 Drama League Awards Nominees and we've got all the nominations for for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Play, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award.

Tony Award Productions has announced that they are shifting the date for the Tony Award Nominations announcement to Monday, May 9, 2022.  Eligibility for shows opening in the 2021-2022 season has been extended to Wednesday, May 4, 2022. 

On Monday, April 25, Tony Award winner and Drama League Distinguished Performance Award nominee André De Shields (Hadestown) and Tony Award and Drama League Distinguished Performance Award Nominee Denée Benton (The Great Comet of 1812, 'The Gilded Age') will host the 2022 Drama League Awards nominations form the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

The Tony Awards are fastly approaching and producers are making sure that rules are in place to prevent events like those that went down at this year's Oscars. The New York Times' Michael Paulson notes that tickets for the ceremony come with a mention of a 'no violence policy', presumably brought upon by Will Smith's incident at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The nominations for the 66th Annual Drama Desk Awards will be announced on May 2, 2022. The year's cutoff for Drama Desk Award consideration is May 1.

The 4th annual Chita Rivera Awards will take place on Monday, June 20 at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s cut off for Chita Rivera Awards consideration is Sunday, May 1, and the nominations will be announced on May 5.

Nominations for the 37th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were announced today by theatre veterans Lilli Cooper and Lea DeLaria, stars of Broadway’s POTUS. With COVID safety in mind, rather than having one host and multiple presenters, this year the Awards will be handed out by a few Host/Presenter pairs on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at NYU Skirball beginning at 7:00pm EST. The Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League and Lucille Lortel Theatre, with additional support provided by TDF.

The Tony Awards have announced the calendar of official events for the 2021-2022 Tony Awards season.

 The Drama League will welcome André De Shields and Denée Benton as hosts of the 2022 Drama League Awards nominations event on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11:00AM at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (40 Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, NY). 

Ariana DeBose has won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Anita in West Side Story. The Lucille Lortel Awards, the preeminent honor presented exclusively to recognize Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway, have confirmed their return to a LIVE in-person celebration on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 7:00PM at NYU Skirball. All New York University.

In addition to this award, DeBose recently won a BAFTA Award, Critics Choice Award, SAG Award, Golden Globe Award for her performance in West Side Story. Rita Moreno won an Oscar for the role for the original film in 1961.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today to confirm the eligibility status of seven Broadway productions for the 2021-2022 season.  This was the second time the Tony Awards Administration Committee met to decide the eligibility for the 75th Annual Tony Awards. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets has announced the 2022 MAC Award nominees. The nominees were determined by votes cast by the active MAC membership, except for the song and recording categories, which were determined by special committees.
