Storyland Theatre Announces Their 30th Season

Visit Children's Theatre this July for their 30th season. By using skits familiar and not so familiar, these shows will focus primarily on children's stories, beliefs, and everyday happenings. They will involve fairy tales, costumes, and dance. 
South Dakota Symphony Receives Catalyst Fund Grant To Advance Equity, Diversity, And Inclusion

The League of American Orchestras has awarded a $18,760 grant to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO) to strengthen their understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and to help transform organizational culture. Given to just twenty-eight orchestras nationwide, the one-year grants comprise the second round of The Catalyst Fund, the League's three-year, $2.1 million grant-making program, made possible by a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation with additional support from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation.

Based on the 2007 cult movie by Adrienne Shelly staring Kerry Russell and Nathan Fillion, Waitress: A New Musical is a new Broadway adaptation, featuring an original score from 8 time Grammy nominiee Sara Bareilles. Like the movie, this is the story of Jenna, played by the sensational Bailey McCall, a young woman caught in a terrible marriage to Ed, a narcissistic, physically and psychologically abusive excuse of a man, played by Clayton Howe. Jenna is an accomplished and wannabe award winning pie baker at Joe's Pie Diner, where she also waits tables with her two BF's, Becky and Dawn, played by Kennedy Salters and Gabriella Marzetta.

So begins the profound anthem 'I'm Here', sung by Celie in the second act of The Color Purple, now playing at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls, SD. That one lyric sums up a lifetime of despair and pain while at the hands of the hard-hearted and merciless men she was forced to endure over the course of her life. In the end, Celie triumphs, but not without a long, emotional journey as she struggles to find her 'beautiful' self.
