This year's final shortlist of eight from 133 eligible plays that were due to premiere at Assembly, Gilded Balloon, Pleasance,  Summerhall, Traverse Theatre and Underbelly,  includes work from all over the UK and champions marginalised communities, shining a light on people who's stories are just not heard or seen.

The Nevada-based Dam Short Film Festival announced film submissions are now open for screening consideration for its 2021 Festival celebrating its 17th year. The final deadline to submit films is Oct. 1, with a late submission deadline of Nov. 1. The festival will be held in the historic town of Boulder City, Nevada, Feb. 11-15, 2021.

Broadway Will Dim its Lights For Jerry Herman on January 7

Yesterday, BroadwayWorld was saddened to report the loss of composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, who passed away on December 26, 2019 at age 88. To commemorate his life and work, the Committee of Theatre Owners will dim the lights of Broadway theatres in New York for one minute on Tuesday, January 7th at exactly 6:45pm.  

Submissions Open For 2020 American Black Film Festival's HBO Short Film Competition

Film submissions are now open for the American Black Film Festival (ABFF)'s 23rd Annual HBO Short Film Competition. The five filmmakers selected as finalists will receive a trip to the festival in Miami Beach, Florida (including airfare and hotel accommodations), which runs from June 17-21, 2020. The winning prize for the ABFF's HBO Short Film Award is $10,000 and each finalist will receive $5,000. In addition, all five films will be made available to stream on HBO.
