Produced by Tim Forbes and Joey Parnes, KPOP takes a fictional look inside the KPOP universe. An earlier version of the show, produced by Ars Nova in association with Ma-Yi Theater and Woodshed Collective, played to sold-out crowds Off-Broadway in the Fall of 2017, and was the recipient of the 2018 Richard Rodgers Award, three Lucille Lortel Awards including Best Musical, and the Off Broadway Alliance Award, as well as seven Drama Desk Award nominations.

This October, Brittany K. Allen will star in the world premiere of her play Redwood at Portland Center Stage at The Armory. In Redwood, a young Black woman's relationship with her white boyfriend is thrown into turmoil when her uncle's exploration of their family's lineage reveals that her ancestors were enslaved by her boyfriend's ancestors. Guided by a hip-hop dance class chorus, this singular American story is about finding a way to live and love in a present that's overpopulated with ghosts.

The Emerging Artists Theatre's New Work Series will kick off it's Fall 2019 season with THE CURIOUS CONTENTS OF CHRISTIE'S WASTEBASKET, a musical comedy by writer/lyricist Janine Robledo and composer Aden Kent Ramsey. Following a reading at the Two River Theater in Red Bank and a workshop production by the Berklee Theater Arts Collaborative in Boston, The Curious Contents... returns to New York City for the first time since its inception at the graduate musical theater writing program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Robledo and Ramsey's collaborative works have been performed at The Duplex, 54 Below, The Royal Family Arts Theater, The Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, Cafe 939, and The Goodspeed Opera House.

MAX VERNON - the songwriter described by The New Yorker as 'equal parts Bohemia and Broadway' - will conclude his first residency at Joe's Pub, Existential Life Crisis Lullaby, on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:00 PM. Following five sold out shows in the last year, he returns with special guests Michael Longoria, Frenchie Davis, Jo Lampert, Lauren Pritchard, Andy Mientus, Fancy Feast, and Sophia Ramos. The spring shows are directed by Ellie Heyman. Vernon received the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, three Drama Desk Award nominations, a Jonathan Larson Grant and the Richard Rodgers Award for his musicals The View UpStairs and KPOP, both of which had critically-acclaimed extended Off-Broadway runs in 2017. KPOP is planning a major new production later this year, and The View UpStairs will have its UK premiere in London this summer. Following a sold-out debut at the Kennedy Center in 2017, Vernon has returned to the New York nightclub stage for an exclusive engagement of high spectacle, high fashion, and high belted F sharps.

Just yesterday, the American Theatre Wing presented the 2019 Jonathan Larson Grants to Julia Gytri & Avi Amon (book, music and lyrics), Emily Gardner Xu Hall (book, music and lyrics), Andy Roninson (music and lyrics), and Ben Wexler (music and lyrics). The Alliance Theatre announced casting today for its upcoming new musical MAYBE HAPPY ENDING. Written in two versions - English-language and Korean-language - the Korean-language version had its world premiere in Seoul, Korea, in 2016, where it won six Korean Musical Awards including the awards for Best Book, Lyrics, and Music.
