Mark Strong

Mark Strong began his acting career with television appearances in EastEnders (1989), After Henry (1989), The Bill (1990), Inspector Morse (1990) and TECX (1990). He appeared in Prime Suspect 3 (1993) as Inspector Larry Hall and The Buddha of Suburbia (1993) as Second TV Producer. His subsequent television credits included Between the Lines (1994), Kavanagh QC (1995), Emma (1996), Our Friends in the North (1996), Sharpe (1996), Band of Gold (1997), Spoonface Steinberg (1998) and Trust (1999). He also appeared in the films Century (1993), Captives (1994), Fever Pitch (1997), Obsession (1997), The Man with Rain in His Shoes (1998), Elephant Juice (1999) and Sunshine (1999).

In 2000, Strong appeared in the television productions Bomber and Anna Karenina. His film credits included To End All Wars (2001), Hotel (2001), The Martins (2001), Superstition (2001), Heartlands (2002) and It's All About Love (2003). He also appeared in The Jury (2002), Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness (2003), Henry VIII (2003) and The Long Firm (2004), earning a BAFTA nomination for the latter. In 2002, he played Orsino in Twelfth Night and Mikhail Lvovich Astrov in Uncle Vanya at the Donmar Warehouse. His other theatrical credits included Love's Labour's Lost (1986–1987), The Man Who Came to Dinner (1988–1989), Fuenteovejuna (1988–1992), Richard III (1989), Henry VI, Part 1 (1989), Edward IV (1989), H.I.D. (1989), King Lear (1990), Napoli Milionaria (1991), Murmuring Judges (1991–1992), Johnny On a Spot (1994), Death of a Salesman (1996–1997), Closer (1997), The Iceman Cometh (1998) and Speed-the-Plow (1999–2000).

Strong appeared in the films Revolver (2005), Oliver Twist (2005), Syriana (2005), Tristan & Isolde (2006) and Scenes of a Sexual Nature (2006). His television credits included Low Winter Sun (2006), in which he played Detective Sgt. Frank Agnew, and Who Do You Think You Are? (2006–2012), for which he provided narration. In 2007, he appeared in Sunshine as Pinbacker and Stardust as Prince Septimus. His 2008 film credits included Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Flashbacks of a Fool, Babylon A.D., RocknRolla, Body of Lies and Good. He also appeared in the television series The Great Martian War 1913–1917 (2013), which he narrated.

In 2009, Strong appeared in Endgame as Neil Barnard, The Young Victoria as Sir John Conroy and Sherlock Holmes as Lord Henry Blackwood. His subsequent film credits included Kick-Ass (2010), Robin Hood (2010) and The Way Back (2010). In 2011, he appeared in The Guard as Clive Cornell, The Eagle as Guern and Lucius Caius Metellus, Green Lantern as Thaal Sinestro, Arrietty as the voice of Pod in the UK English dub, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as Jim Prideaux and Black Gold as Sultan Amar. His 2012 film credits included John Carter, in which he played Matai Shang, and Zero Dark Thirty, in which he portrayed George. He also appeared in the television series Low Winter Sun (2013) and voiced the narrator in the documentary series The Great Martian War 1913–1917 (2013).

Strong portrayed Jacob Sternwood in Welcome to the Punch (2013), Heraclio in Justin and the Knights of Valour (2013), Robert Seymour in Blood (2013), and narrated the documentary Unity (2014). His other 2014 film credits included Closer to the Moon, Before I Go to Sleep, Mindscape, The Imitation Game and Kingsman: The Secret Service, in which he played Merlin. He also appeared in the television series Low Winter Sun (2013) as Detective Sgt. Frank Agnew.

In 2015, Strong starred as Eddie Carbone in A View from the Bridge at the Young Vic in London, earning the Olivier Award for Best Actor. The production transferred to the Wyndham's Theatre in London and later the Lyceum Theatre in New York, where Strong received nominations for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play and the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. His 2016 film credits included Grimsby, Approaching the Unknown, The Siege of Jadotville and Miss Sloane. He also appeared in the National Theatre production of The Red Barn (2016–2017) as Donald Dodd.

Strong's subsequent film credits include 6 Days (2017), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), The Catcher Was a Spy (2018), Stockholm (2018), Shazam! (2019) and 1917 (2019). He portrayed Max Easton in the television series Deep State (2018), voiced Ordon in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019) and starred as Daniel Milton in Temple (2019–2021), for which he also served as an executive producer. He also narrated the documentary Untamed Romania (2018) and the documentary series Home Game (2020).

In 2021, Strong appeared in Cruella as John and voiced Alfred Wolfsohn in Charlotte. He later appeared in Tár (2022) as Eliot Kaplan and Nocebo (2022) as Felix. His 2023 film credits included Shazam! Fury of the Gods, in which he made a cameo appearance as Thaddeus Sivana, Murder Mystery 2, Dead Shot, The Critic and The End We Start From, on which he also served as an executive producer. He portrayed Trent Ikithon in the television series The Legend of Vox Machina (2024) and appeared in Dune: Prophecy (2024) as Emperor Javicco Corrino and The Penguin (2024) as Carmine Falcone. He also appeared in Atlas (2024) as General Jake Boothe and The Silent Hour (2024) as Detective Doug Slater.

Strong's later credits include Nine Perfect Strangers (2025) as David and The Mighty Nein (2025) as the voice of Trent Ikithon. He starred as Oedipus in the London and New York productions of Oedipus (2024–2026). His upcoming projects include Cry to Heaven, in which he will portray Cardinal Calvino, and the television adaptation of Neuromancer, in which he will play Armitage.
