Trisha Jeffrey is a talent who "captivates the audience", playing diverse roles across the world and on Broadway. With Helen Hayes Award and Jefferson Award Nominations, Ms. Jeffrey is the recipient of a Black Theatre Alliance Award and a BroadwayWorld Chicago Award for her portrayal of Celie in The Color Purple. Ms. Jeffrey has been called "a revelation", who "dominates the stage." Critics have lauded Trisha as "completely disarming," and "intensely empathetic" (Chicago Tribune) with "a voice of liquid gold." Currently playing Mary Church Terrell in the first National Tour of SUFFS, Trisha recently appeared in a performance of American Son (Kendra Ellis Connor) after creating the tour-de-force role of civil rights activist Fannie Lee Chaney in the world premiere drama about the Mississippi Burning, Three Women, at Capital Repertory Theatre.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Trisha began realizing her dream of being a performer at the age of eleven. Thanks to her grandmother, who upon the shocking discovery of Trisha's singing voice –and in spite of her overwhelming shyness– immediately threw her into the church choir. Trisha’s early passion for the arts became solidified while attending the famed LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, after which she earned her BA in Theatre, plus minors in Music and Dance from Lehman College – City University of New York. She soon after became a founding member of the Classical Theater of Harlem. Challenging herself to dive further into her love of acting, she completed the Two-Year Professional Workshop at Circle In The Square Theatre School on Broadway. Her 2003 Broadway debut as Crystal, one of the highly acclaimed Urchins in the New Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors continues to be one of her favorite times on stage.
Trisha's Broadway and international tours include Rent, Sister Act, and Motown The Musical, and her numerous regional credits include Caroline or Change, Once On This Island, Jekyll and Hyde, and playing the powerhouse role of Mother Brown in the remarkable new musical the Ballad of Henry Box Brown. In New York, she has been seen as Vivian Dandridge in The Dorothy Dandridge Musical at Carnegie Hall, Liner Notes on Love and Music, Loveless Texas, and many others. Her Broadway credits include Rent, All Shook Up and Motown The Musical, where she originated the role of Mary Wilson, also often seen as Diana Ross. You may have recently seen Trisha on screen in the romcom Things Like This, and Apple's Dear Edward.
