Interview: Tatiana Pandiani of TORERA at Alley Theatre

Last year, during the Alley All New Festival, upon the announcement of Law & Order's Monet Hurst-Mendoza having a workshop was news that caused for myself much excitement. The workshop was not a disappointment but made me anxious to witness a full scale production. When it was announced in the 22-23 Alley Theatre season, my excitement grew not only due to the capability of a full scale production, but also the fact that Director and Choreographer, Tatiana Pandiani, would be at the helm.

Review: Pittsburgh CLO Slightly Reinvents GODSPELL at Benedum Center

Pittsburgh's greatest musical theatre creation comes home, in a production that's something old, something new. If you're going to talk about musicals in Pittsburgh, let alone musicals FROM Pittsburgh, the story is ultimately going to revolve around Godspell. Created by bookwriter John-Michael Tebelak as his master's thesis at CMU circa the early 1970s, the musical quickly headed to Off-Broadway, with a brief Broadway run and a historic Toronto production that formed that roots of the seventies sketch comedy scene. Soon, there was a movie, and after that point, the little Jesus-clown musical from Pittsburgh was a worldwide sensation. Pippin, which shares composer Stephen Schwartz, had a similar Pittsburgh-to-Broadway trajectory, but a show as niche and nihilistic as Pippin will never be able to compete with the mix of loose hippie vibes, vaudeville throwbacks and old-time religion that give Godspell its heart.

BWW Review: THE HOMBRES at Two River Theater Brings Dynamic Male Relationships to the Stage

A new play, The Hombres by Tony Meneses is now on stage at Two River Theater in Red Bank.  This view of emerging male friendships will be performed through April 10 in the Marion Huber Theater.

Photos: First Look at THE HOMBRES at Two River Theater

This new play by Tony Meneses (Two River’s The Women of Padilla, Guadalupe in the Guest Room) is a fresh and nuanced look at the complexity and intimacy of male friendship. Set in New Jersey (“somewhere off the NJ Transit line”), the play follows Julián, a gay Latino yoga teacher, as he clashes with the straight and macho Latino construction workers outside his studio—particularly the older head of the crew, Héctor, who seeks from Julián something he never expected. Annie Tippe (Lortel Award-winning Octet) to direct.

Cast & Crew Announced For Two River's World Premiere Of THE HOMBRES

Two River Theater announces the cast and creative team for its third world premiere written by playwright Tony Meneses, The Hombres, which will be directed by Annie Tippe in the theater's Marion Huber Theater this spring.
