Carolyn McCormick BIO

Carolyn McCormick is an American actress with an impressive career in film, television, and theater. Born on September 19, 1959, in Midland, Texas, McCormick grew up in New Jersey and attended Williams College in Massachusetts. She later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
McCormick began her acting career in theater, making her Broadway debut in 1983 in the play "The Dinner Party." She went on to appear in several other Broadway productions, including "The Elephant Man," "Private Lives," and "Equus." Her performance in the latter earned her a Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk Award nomination.
In addition to her work on Broadway, McCormick has also appeared in numerous off-Broadway productions, including "The Cherry Orchard," "The Misanthrope," and "The Death of Papa." She has also worked extensively in regional theater, performing at prestigious venues such as the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.
McCormick's success on stage eventually led to opportunities in film and television. She made her film debut in 1987 in the movie "Plain Clothes," and went on to appear in several other films, including "Enemy Mine" and "The Doctor." Her television credits include guest appearances on popular shows such as "Law & Order," "The Practice," and "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
However, McCormick is perhaps best known for her role as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet on the long-running NBC series "Law & Order." She appeared on the show for a total of 50 episodes over the course of several seasons, earning critical acclaim for her portrayal of the compassionate and dedicated psychiatrist.
In addition to her work in film and television, McCormick has also lent her voice to several audiobooks and video games. She narrated the audiobook versions of the popular "Hunger Games" trilogy by Suzanne Collins, as well as several books by author Patricia Cornwell. McCormick has also provided voiceover work for several video games, including "Grand Theft Auto IV" and "BioShock Infinite."
Despite her success in other areas, McCormick has remained committed to her roots in theater. In 2010, she returned to Broadway to star in the play "Equus" alongside Daniel Radcliffe. The production was a critical and commercial success, and McCormick's performance was praised for its depth and nuance.
In addition to her acting work, McCormick is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Yale School of Drama and the Actors Studio Drama School. McCormick is also a founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company, a non-profit theater company based in New York City.
Outside of her professional life, McCormick is known for her philanthropic work. She is a passionate advocate for animal rights and has worked with several organizations to promote animal welfare and adoption. McCormick is also a supporter of several other causes, including environmental conservation and human rights.
In conclusion, Carolyn McCormick is a versatile and accomplished actress with a career spanning several decades. From her early days on Broadway to her iconic role on "Law & Order," McCormick has proven herself to be a talented and dedicated performer.
