Miami City Ballet, one of the country's premier ballet companies, has received an Art Works grant of $50,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts, as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts. Miami City Ballet received the Art Works grant to support the presentation of a centennial celebration of American Choreographer Jerome Robbins. (more...)

Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College (MOADMDC) will present Disorganizing Mimesis, a lecture-performance by members of the award-winning cutting-edge Mexican theater collective Teatro Ojo. In Disorganizing Mimesis, two of Teatro Ojo's founding members, Hector Bourges and Patricio Villareal, give an immersive introduction to one of Mexico's most avant-garde theatrical companies, while taking their audience on an idiosyncratic and twisting tour of Mexican history itself. Disorganizing Mimesis will have one performance at the MDC Live Arts Lab on at 7:30 p.m., March 10. (more...)

Diverse women are grossly under-represented in business development and access to business funding. The 2nd annual Flourish Media Conference (FMC), in partnership with Florida International University (FIU), hopes to close that gap and address the issues of income inequality, education & innovation as it relates to women of color business owners. FMC will take place at FIU's South Campus - (Graham Center) - 11200 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33199 on Saturday, February 16 & 17, 2018. The conference attracts business women across sectors and provides an open and supportive platform for sharing, learning, as well as making valuable connections. This two-day meeting is filled with interactive workshops and panel discussions. Keynote speakers include Radio Host & On-Air Personality Felisha Monet of 99 Jams, Editor Talia Oliver of The Shade Room, credited with changing the landscape of journalism for its ability to draw in 8 million social followers and reach 94 million viewers.
