Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival Announces Mark Morris Dance Group and Umanoove/Didy Veldman

Mark Morris Dance Group & Music Ensemble returns to Jacob's Pillow's Ted Shawn Theatre, July 17-21, restaging both new and beloved repertory. 'A tour de force of artistic storytelling' (The Los Angeles Times), this audience favorite is renowned for deeply witty and poetic dance and has amassed one of the most extensive Pillow performance records of any artist. Mark Morris Dance Group & Music Ensemble performs Prelude and Prelude-a work that has not been performed anywhere since 1992-the new work Sport, excerpts from Words, and the company classic Grand Duo.

Renaissance House Writers Hold July 4 Reading Of Frederick Douglass Speech On Martha's Vineyard

Renaissance House Retreat for Writers and Artists invites the public to participate in the 13th annual free dramatic reading of Frederick Douglass' powerful speech 'What Does the Fourth of July Mean to the Negro?' on July 4 at 4:30pm at Martha's Vineyard's historic Inkwell Beach in Oak Bluffs. This year includes a free giveaway of Black Dog tee shirts to the first 30 readers, donated by Black Dog General Stores. Volunteer readers are requested to arrive by 4:00p.m. The reading performance begins at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.  
Works By Betye Saar, Ralph Coburn, And Joe Overstreet Enter The Rose Art Museum's Permanent Collection

The Rose Art Museum has announced that three major works have newly entered the museum's permanent collection. The most recent acquisitions purchased with funds from museum endowments include Betye Saar's mixed media assemblage Supreme Quality (1998), Ralph Coburn's multi-part painting Random Sequence Participatory Composition (1962), and Joe Overstreet's monumental sculptural painting untitled (1972) from the Flight Patterns series. These important works add further depth to the Rose's outstanding modern and contemporary collection and join new and significant works by Cuban artist Zilia Sanchez and American artists Kay Rosen and Adam Pendleton that have been added to the permanent collection within the last two years.

PIE Story Theatre debuted in Central Park in the summer of 1991. Now after a multitude of successful companies in New York, New Jersey, Chicago and Los Angeles, it makes its Massachusetts premiere at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater and the Outer Cape beginning on July 7th at 3PM at the Larry Phillips Performance Pavilion. The program then tours the entire Outer Cape community with performances from Dennis to Provincetown at a variety of venues. All of the performances are free of charge. We Live in Cairo just finished a successful run at American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.) in Cambridge. The musical was inspired by the young Egyptians who took to the streets in 2011 to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak, this world premiere musical follows six revolutionary students armed with laptops and cameras, guitars and spray cans as they come of age in contemporary Cairo. Winner of the Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater, We Live in Cairo moves from the jubilation of Tahrir Square through the tumultuous years that followed. As escalating division and violence lead to a military crackdown, the revolutionaries of Tahrir must confront the question of how-or even whether-to keep their dreams of change alive.

Philip Guston Retrospective Will Embark on International Tour in 2020–2021

One of America's greatest modern painters, Philip Guston (1913-1980) uniquely bridged the personal and the political, the abstract and the figurative, and the humorous and the tragic in paintings of lively touch and memorable impact. A major retrospective of the artist, Philip Guston Now, the first in more than 15 years, will present a balanced view of the artist's 50-year career. Organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Tate Modern, London, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the exhibition will debut in the Gallery's East Building from June 7 through September 13, 2020.
