Im very excited for this upcoming revival just in time for the shows 20th Anniversary! Im wondering if Disney intends for it to replace either Aladdin or Frozen, as Thomas Schumacher is on the record as saying that he intends for the picking tour to play an extended stop on Broadway! I loved this show back in the 2000s, and while the book is far from perfect, even pedantic at points, The score and costumes and visuals/sets are all top rate; not to mention the dizzying performances by Heather Headley/Sherrie Rene Scott/Adam Pascal! Soooooo excited to see AIDA back!!!!

Me too! I love love loved the OBC Heather Sherie and Adam. I’m really hoping this makes an extended stop in New York. Really hope to see. I hope they do a bit of “star” casting too

I wonder if maybe this will return to its original home on Broadway and possibly reopen The Palace Theatre...?

Manage your expectations. Can't imagine there would be anyone remotely "starry" in a Disney tour, especially with a green director.

Does this contain any book revisions? I always thought that was the weakest spot in the show.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

It’s a tour. Wouldn’t expect anything too crazy!

SO excited for this!!!! I will definitely check this out at Paper Mill, and I love the idea of having it reopen the Palace theatre on Broadway at some point.

I think the press release said that the book will be revised.

Will definitely be seeing this at Papermill. I'd guess and say it tours for a year, then aims for Broadway by Fall 2022.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I’m excited to see Bob Crowley’s designs and any updates he may incorporate. It sounds like it’s going to be more of a tweaked staging of the original rather than a completely new production. Similar to what they have done with Mary Poppins in the West End. Hopefully it won’t be too different. I’ve seen productions of Aida without Bob Crowley’s designs and they just didn’t work for me.

I never seen Aida before but I like a few songs. I’m looking forward to when the tour comes to California!

The articles says "updated and re-imagined." That's pretty much the definition of a whole new production. Though with the same design team, that's curious. (That said, Schumacher has spoken of a future Beauty and the Beast revival with original director and creative team with an entirely new concept, so not necessarily so curious for Disney.)

I could see this going two ways. Either it follows through as planned, opens at Papermill, goes on tour, and finishes out the tour down the line with an extended sit down in New York eventually. OR I can also very much forsee it opening at Papermill and the response being so good that they cancel the tour and take it straight back to Broadway.

I don’t see that happening...it is not that good a show.  I liked it, but the book was awful and the choreography only adequate.  Don’t know how much they will change, of course.  I can see this being a stop On the tour, like the Channing revivals,  but can’t imagine that this would be for an open run.

I hope they cast two vocal “stars” for this show. The vocal demands on one girl is a lot!

I hope that the revised book ends up becoming the book that gets licensed. The current one is just dreadful and I’d love for more productions than just this one to get to do a better version of the show. (I love the score and the story, though!)

I don't think the current book is that bad, but there is some extraneous dialogue I wouldn't mind seeing trimmed. I wasn't happy with the changes David Henry Hwang made to Tarzan after the Broadway run so hopefully Aida is better.

Idk if she’s the best choice acting, but would love to hear Jai’len Josey sing the **** out of this.

Does anyone have any idea of the LA dates, or when they will be released

The music is fantastic but the scenes in between are very badly written. I wish it was sung through.

Some of the scenes need serious rewriting at least.

According to a casting call for the developmental lab it looks like the character of Aida’s father has been replaced and changed to her mother. It listed a specific vocal range for the character as well which makes me believe they’ve written a new song for the character. Excited to see this new revival.

Anyone know how big or professional this will be?

I am thinking about making a trip all the way from the netherlands just to see this, but don’t know what kind of quality to expect. I missed the Broadway version and have been dying to see it ever since.
