Taylor Louderman’s honesty Sep 13

Applaud her but just think there are 400 performers dying to be in the position she’s in, so... ha. Take it for what it is. She’s not getting up at 7am waiting in line HOPING to get seen day after day.

I agree to disagree, only because he was in a high-profile “regional tryout” which had its sights set on Broadway. So, I think, putting myself in his shoes, doing that role 8x a week for 6 months - a grueling role - and then not getting that icing on the cake (a Tony nom, etc). I think that would sting me too. And again, I appreciated his honesty. It’s not always about doing it “for the art.”

No negative, no! Just not a flat out rave! I loved so much of it - mostly all of Eva’s songs and material - but felt a lot of the music was just “eh.” And I loved the staging but felt it fizzled out.
Obviously it’s a big fat hit and happy for everyone involved! And love Rachel as a director so happy she will have a hit under her belt!

I will say, the show made me want to see a normal production as I’ve nothing to compare it to!

I’ve been struggling a lot with this as well as a performer. It’s like you study for 4 years, do all these great shows at University. And then your first auditions are for Spongebob, Margaritaville, etc. And it’s like “Do I really want to do this? Does this fulfill my passion?” And it doesn’t, really. But the money, the connections, the chance to perform do. I guess you just want to be passionate about every role, but it’s a job and it’s not always like that. So you fake it and get that paycheck
Did it recoup? It seems kind of expensive to run honestly.

I agree but I think the songs do a disservice in that they keep you at arms length.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS returning Off-Broadway this Fall? Sep 12

My question regarding open-ended was purely from a financial standpoint: why sink all this money into a property that is still well-known and regularly produced and only have it run a few weeks? Surely the idea is to be open ended.

There’s no personal issues. I don’t know the man. Just a simple audience reaction. Everyone else felt grounded and real and honest and he felt very “IM ACTING.” And I’d have preferred a softer falsetto for the role instead of the strained rock vocals he gave. Case in point: when Eva does the “Wait for Me” reprise, I thought that song finally had some power and heft to it.
Amber was electrifying at the evening show.

Finally saw this, thanks StubHub, and have to echo everyone else. Fun evening but doesn’t add up to much. The most emotion I felt was for Amber Gray’s character. Just watching her watching others she made my heart break.
I loved the staging but it got a little tiresome. I could have used one more surprising element in Act 2.
And... I don’t get Reeves. Don’t get it. His voice wasn’t pleasant. His acting was just awful. I don’t get it. We can do better.

Oh I think we got mixed up because I’ve no issue with younger people enjoying a show, but I will say my critical assessments for things I’ve seen for free tend to be positive.
I’m just saying there’s an onslaught of race places and that seems to be the buzzy thing right now - White Noise, Fairview, etc - nut is it what audiences want or is it what a bunch of old rich white peoples think we want to make themselves look edgy? I thought White Noise was maybe the worst thing I’ve seen in ag

100% in agreement! This play will have its lovers and haters just like any play! I’ve just seen enough of this narrative, and I know this is just a product of the times we are in and everyone screaming for more diversity, which is totally justified and I support. But I saw “Sugar In Our Wounds,” and thought it was one of the worst things I’ve seen in awhile. Terrible writing. But because of the subject matter it is hailed as amazing. I just miss the August: Osage County type plays where you are

This might come off not as I intend, but I’m kind of over the “race play.” I feel like there’s been an onslaught of slavery driven narratives, and none of them seem too interesting to me. I’d rather a good plot than a “message.” But maybe that’s just me.
