Someone Who'll Watch Over Me focuses on the trials and tribulations of an Irishman, an Englishman and an American who are kidnapped and held hostage in a nondescript location in Lebanon. As the three men strive for survival, they also find themselves trying to overcome both their personal grudges towards one another, and their nationalistic differences, all under the watchful eyes and ears of their captors. The Old Globe presents the third production of the 2014 Summer Season, Ronald Harwood's comedy QUARTET, directed by Richard Seer (Other Desert Cities, God of Carnage, The Last Romance). Harwood received an Academy Award for his screenplay of The Pianist and was nominated for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Dresser (also a hit on Broadway and the West End). QUARTET will play in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, now through August 24, 2014. The show opens tonight, July 31. (more...)

NNPN Unveils Twelve Productions of Three Rolling World Premieres

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 44th, 45th, and 46th Rolling World Premieres: Nathan Alan Davis' Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea, Andrew Hinderaker's Colossal, and William Missouri Downs' Women Playing Hamlet will receive a total of 12 productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2014/15 season. Everyman Theatre Begins Rehearsals for Theresa Rebeck's THE UNDERSTUDY

Everyman Theatre began rehearsals today for the 2014/15 season opener, The Understudy. Theresa Rebeck's comedic look into the backstage world of show biz runs from August 27th through September 28th. The three-person cast features Everyman Resident Company Members Clinton Brandhagen, Danny Gavigan and Beth Hylton. Joseph W. Ritsch makes his Everyman directorial debut with the production. Fiasco Theater's INTO THE WOODS Extends Through August at The Old Globe

The Old Globe today announced additional performances for the second production of the 2014 Summer Season, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods, which made its World Premiere at The Old Globe in 1986. The production is an inventive reimagining by Fiasco Theater, directed by Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld, in a production that originated at McCarter Theatre Center. By popular demand, it will now play through Sunday, August 17. Tickets for the extension will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 29 at noon. (more...)

TACT/The Actors Company Theatre has announced its 2014/2015 Season, the company's 22nd. The critically-acclaimed and Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway company "dedicated to presenting neglected or rarely produced plays of literary merit," will offer two works featuring strong, powerful female characters. The Killing of Sister George, the ground-breaking play by Frank Marcus and Abundance, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley's (Crimes of the Heart) tall tale set in the Great American West, will be presented at The Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) on Theatre Row.
