Written for the Venetian Carnival of 1756, Goldoni's comedy recounts the matrimonial scheming, gossip, and games enlivening the daily activity of a bustling but poor Venetian piazza where pandemonium reigns. The commedia-inspired play centers on four scrappy, hard-working, hard-playing families whose daily lives on a small square are interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious wealthy stranger during Carnival.  (more...)

With special permission from Stephen King, Playhouse Merced will be producing "Stephen King's The Shining."  This live stage adaptation of King's classic novel follows the story of Jack Torrance and his family as they move into the Overlook Hotel after Jack is hired as winter caretaker.  Cut off from civilization, Jack battles alcoholism and bouts of uncontrolled rage, all while trying to write a play.  Meanwhile, evil forces linked to the Overlook's violent history take advantage of Jack's weaknesses in order to claim of his son, Danny, and his precognitive powers. The five burly Brits, backed by a shredding band and a bevy of beautiful dancers from famed Sunset Strip burlesque troupe, Little Miss Nasty, were met with countless standing ovations from the packed theater throughout the evening, as they delivered reimagined renditions of the most beloved rock anthems and biggest songs of all time.
