EUGENE ONEGIN
Lyric Opera
2/26-3/20/2017
Intensely passionate drama set to some of opera’s most sweeping, soulful, and heartstoppingly beautiful music — that is Eugene Onegin. Tatiana is a lovesick country girl, and Onegin is the sophisticated young man who callously spurns her love before realizing, too late, what a mistake he’s made. Here is Pushkin’s profoundly human, hopelessly romantic, ultimately devastating story, elevated by Tchaikovsky’s richly layered and unabashedly expressive music. Find out why Eugene Onegin is beloved by opera audiences the world over. - See more at: https://www.lyricopera.org/concertstickets/calendar/2016-2017/productions/lyricopera/eugene-onegin#sthash.d1AKD69g.dpuf

Satanic Panic: An Evening of Paranoia and Power in Broadway SATANIC PANIC: AN EVENING OF PARANOIA AND POWER
112 South Michigan Avenue Ballroom
3/24-3/24/2017
Was a generation being preconditioned for devil worship through heavy metal music and He-Man?! In a time of deep social upheaval, paranoia is paramount! Recall the power that misunderstanding and moral panic hold to destroy lives – and experience it all at Satanic Panic, March 24th at the 112 S Michigan Avenue Ballroom. The ballroom transforms into an occult ritual space where infamous talk show host 'Gerald Rivers' will conduct an expose on the dangers of Satanism. Whether you are for or against … or simply a morbid curiosity seeker … be part of the studio audience while the host confronts this moral binary of good versus evil. Allow yourself to be lured into an immersive evening of entertainment that brings together 40 plus visual artists, designers, and performers from across the country who have created pieces that touch on specific media stories and personal experiences related to the 1980s-1990s cultural phenomenon of Satanic Panic! In addition to 3 ritual sets of burlesque and variety performances audience members will have the chance to interact with floor characters, engage in games, purchase from vintage pop culture vendors, engage with roleplaying photo opportunities and earn badges of "sin". Guests are encouraged to dress in punk rock, gothic or heavy metal attire to help transport the event to a time and place. The goal is to push the boundaries of live entertainment into an engaging immersive environment where patrons can reflect on events of the past and discover ways that this same kind of moral panic and hysteria is thriving today.

CARMEN
Lyric Opera
2/11-3/25/2017
Opera has plenty of femmes fatales, but there’s only one Carmen. Her allure proves spellbinding as she seduces a hapless corporal and then a dashing bullfighter. You’ll feel the heat as you’re captivated by Bizet’s bewitching melodies — the smoky Habanera, the playful Seguidilla, the provocative Gypsy Song. Every single melody in this ever-popular opera is a beloved hit, and each is brought to life by a cast of spectacular leading artists. Join us for this production — never before seen in Chicago — and find out why it’s the perfect work to see again and again, and the ideal opportunity to introduce new fans to the thrill of opera.

Dad tickles the ivories in a dive. His daughter dazzles in concert halls. In between them, the bittersweet dance of parent and child, present and past, dream and disappointment plays out in the key of life. Upright Grand, by Chicago-based playwright Laura Schellhardt, is wonderfully schmaltzy and boldly exposes emotion with old fashioned charm.

Unseen. Unheard. Unknown. At the margins of society, on the knife-edge of survival, they work for low wages, in harsh conditions. No safety net. No insurance or protections. No guarantee of work tomorrow. This critically-acclaimed piece, most recently produced at the UK’s National Theatre, is re-imagined for Chicago by writer/director Alexander Zeldin. In association with Dark Harbor Stories, a company led by Ensemble Member David Schwimmer and Tom Hodges, this play is a gritty portrait of those who cling precariously to the bottom rung of the ladder. Full of life, humor, and tenderness, it sheds light on America’s shadow economy and shines an unflinching spotlight on the incendiary intersection of race and class.

Tony, a middle-aged Napa Valley vintner who makes a mail-order marriage proposal to Rosabella. She accepts the proposal on the mistaken assumption that the photo Tony sent along is of Tony, when it is in fact a picture of the young and handsome farm foreman Joe. It’s a touching love story that has been popular first as a non-musical play and feature film and as this musical filled with sweeping ballads, intense dramatic arias and tuneful, splashy Broadway-style numbers.
