Neil Patrick Harris On HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH Character Preparation
Broadway and Hollywood superstar Neil Patrick Harris was feted earlier this week in a lavish Drama League Gala and the affable actor opened up about his next mainstage role, that of the gender-bending title character in the rock musical HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH.
Harris revealed that rehearsals have just begun, sharing, "I'm really excited - today was our first rehearsal with the band. I arrived here last night, so I had five hours with the band and Lena [Hall], who is doing Yitzhak."
Additionally, Harris says of his co-star Lena, "She is phenomenal - everyone is phenomenal."
As for preparing to play the titular diva herself, Harris relates, "I feel like the freshman in highschool surrounded by all these seniors in college and I am trying to figure out who my Hedwig is and how she stands and how she sings how much of an accent - it's very early on in the process."
Harris concludes of the first HEDWIG rehearsal occuring on the same 24-hour period as the big Drama League event, "So, it's like a lot of randomness today - and then it ends with this!"
