Hugh Jackman was not always an international superstar. The actor, well-known for the iconic role of 'Wolverine' in the X-Men movie franchise, was a last minute replacement in the original superhero installment, taking over the role for actor Dougray Scott who had to drop out of the film.

At the time, director Bryan Singer was taking a big chance on the completely unknown Australian actor. Little did he know that he would quickly become a star of stage and screen all over the world.

Jackman was recently seen in Prisoners alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. Other upcoming big screen projects include X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Greatest Showman on Earth. Other films include The Wolverine and the Oscar-nominated movie adaptation of Les Miserables.

Jackman has appeared on Broadway in Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway, A Steady Rain and The Boy From Oz -- for which he won the 2004 Tony Award -- as well as off-Broadway's Carousel. In 2012, Jackman was honored with a Tony Award Special Award for Extraordinary Contribution to the Theatre Community.

He will return to Broadway in the new play 'The River' opening this October.
