Review Roundup: DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES'The Planet of the Apes' saga continues with 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', which opens today, July 11th. The film is a sequel to 2011's 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', which began the reboot of the original 'Planet of the Apes' series.

This time around, things look much gloomier for our fellow humans- few have survived the terrible virus outbreak unleashed on mankind ten years prior. They come to make peace with the ever-growing band of genetically evolved apes lead by Caesar, but the truce is short-lived; soon both species find themselves battling for control of the planet they inhabit.

The film features the acting talents of Jason Clarke, Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell.

Let's see what the critics had to say!

A.O. Scott, The New York Times: The film is full of small, memorable moments and crowded with distinctive personalities on both sides of the ape-human divide. In other words, it's a satisfying movie and an example - a dispiritingly rare one these days - of what mainstream Hollywood filmmaking can still achieve.

Richard Corliss, Time: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, while not nearly the masterpiece proclaimed by many critics, is certainly a fascinating cross-species: a big-budget summer action fantasy with a sylvan, indie-film vibe, and a war movie that dares ask its audience to root for the peacemakers.

Thomas Patrick, Huffington Post UK: It may lack the heart, focus and surprising poignancy of the original, but it's still a suitably impressive sequel full of outstanding performances and a bold attempt to create something different from the tired blockbuster cliches.

Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News: Just when it seemed like blockbusters could never evolve, in rides this extraordinary epic - a towering fable of humanity and brutality that takes a great movie myth and launches it forward.
