Breaking News: THE DROWSY CHAPERONE Starring Geoffrey Rush Set To Film In 2014!Broadway/Hollywood notable Geoffrey Rush is poised to take his Australian stage role in the hit Tony Award-winning Broadway musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE to the silver screen in a film he will star in and produce next year.

Screenwriter and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE bookwriter Don McKellar himself confirmed the long-rumored news earlier this week, while out promoting his new feature film THE GRAND SEDUCTION at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The big screen movie musical adaptation of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is set to start shooting in 2014, according to McKellar.

Prior to that, McKellar will also oversee the new TV series SENSITIVE SKIN, which he will direct and co-star in with stage and screen standout Kim Cattrall.

Also, Rush stars in THE BOOK THIEF later this year, just in time for awards season, as well. More information on that project is available here.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE was written by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. The original 2006 Broadway production received Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Featured Actress (Beth Leavel), Best Scenic Design & Best Costume Design and ran for nearly a year and a half on Broadway.

Of note, Rush starred in the original Melbourne Theatre Company production of the musical in 2010, which was a sell-out, multi-extended run hit.

So, what are your thoughts on a movie musical adaptation of such a theatrical and whimsical property as THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
