Oakland Symphony Releases 130-Member Virtual Performance Of Bill Withers' 'Lean On Me'

The Oakland Symphony today released a 130-member virtual performance of the classic Bill Withers song 'Lean on Me.' The performance captures the Oakland Symphony family of ensembles - the Orchestra, Chorus, and Youth Orchestra along with 30 participants of the Symphony's MUSE education program. The performers ranged in age from 8 to 86 and the musicians are of all levels. The video can be viewed at OaklandSymphony.org.
George Floyd Memorial Bust Released For 3D Printing By Sculptors Daniel And Rodman Edwards

A memorial bust of George Floyd will be available to everyone supporting the Black Lives Matter protests all over the globe. The George Floyd memorial bust, which is currently online for virtual viewing, can also be 3D printed at local libraries, maker spaces, colleges, and community networks of individuals with 3D printers. The 3D printing file is available for free at Sketchfab and is a presentation of love from the sculptors to the Floyd family and protesters at large, announced Cory Allen Contemporary Art.

PlayGround, San Francisco's renowned theatre development lab, is currently in the midst of hosting the nation's largest fully digital new play festival, PlayGround Zoom Fest. Already running and continuing through June 14, 2020, the ambitious five-week online event gathers leading voices in American Theatre including Lauren Yee, Jonathan Spector, Aaron Loeb, Geetha Reddy, Kent Nicholson, acclaimed actors, theatre journalists, designers, and more from across the country, to present and discuss a panoply of new works and celebrate PlayGround's 25th anniversary. BroadwayWorld caught up this week with PlayGround's Artistic Director Jim Kleinmann and the much-in-demand playwright Lauren Yee in separate phone conversations. Yee is just coming off a huge success with the New York run of her newest play, Cambodian Rock Band. She participated in PlayGround's Writers Pool as a young playwright and will be part of the festival's Zoom Town Hall panel on June 8th.
