Civic Theatre To Hold Volunteer Training and Information Event 8/7

Civic Theatre of Allentown will hold a volunteer orientation event for all current and interested volunteers on Saturday, August 7th in Civic's 19th Street Theatre. Doors will open at 9:30am for free coffee and refreshments and the program will begin at 10am, lasting until 12:30pm. To RSVP, all current and interested volunteers must either call Civic at 610.432.8943 or e-mail Civic Volunteer Coordinator Jake Oberholtzer at jake@civictheatre.com.

Participants will meet the staff and board members of Civic Theatre of Allentown, earn a 2010-2011 certification as a front of house volunteer (ushers, greeters, concessions and will-call), learn about the many different types of things that Civic volunteers can do, from set painting to graphic design, hear about our new volunteer appreciation program for the 2010-2011 season, and tour Civic Theatre with the staff who will be taking further questions on volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers are a vital part of everything that happens at Civic Theatre, a not-for-profit organization. Volunteers are needed in:
-- the costume shop, sewing or organizing costumes,
-- set design, painting or building sets,
-- lighting, hanging lights before the show or operating them during the show,
-- marketing, designing ads, distributing posters, maintaining clips or writing press releases,
-- community relations, staffing information tables in colleges or at festivals,
-- fundraising, stuffing envelopes, researching grants, processing mail or helping with events,
-- the box office answering the phone or selling tickets,
-- the film business, working the concession stand, taking tickets or distributing flyers,
-- facility maintenance, helping to take care of Civic's historic building,
-- general administration, making photocopies, filing, entering data, driving to pick things up, -- during shows to usher, sell concessions or hand out tickets.

The program will run 10am to until 12:30pm

Past volunteers still interesting in helping Civic must also attend this training. New procedures for the 2010-2011 season will be discussed.
