An embarrassment of theatrical riches, bordering on sensory, stimulating overload, is on display in an exceptionally bold and satisfying reimagining of the very influential musical Pal Joey—now reconceived as Chez Joey. The show still takes place in the 1940’s Chicago music/nightclub scene, but it has been opened up to explore potent possibilities that are realized in this production.

Arena Stage will host CHEZ JOEY AFTER HOURS: A ‘40s Jazz Soirée following a performance at the Mead Center in Washington, D.C. The immersive nightclub event features live jazz and vintage-themed performances inspired by Pal Joey.

While parents enjoy the heat and sound of Chez Joey’s 2pm matinee, kids (ages 6–12) are invited to have a Valentine’s celebration of their own—filled with creativity, play, and imagination.

Arena Stage will present Chez Joey, a vibrant new take on the musical inspired by John O’Hara’s ‘Pal Joey’ stories for The New Yorker. Chez Joey brings a complete book revision by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Richard LaGravenese (The Fisher King) and a curated selection of brand-new arrangements from the legendary catalog of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart to a 21st-century audience.
