Review: ABT'S THE WINTER'S TALE at Kennedy Center Opera House
by Emily Berger
- Feb 16, 2026
American Ballet Theatre, the country’s great ballet company of theatrical stars and story ballets, returned to DC this week to present Christopher Wheeldon’s retelling of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. A star vehicle with six leading roles, the ballet succeeds in delivering sumptuous dancing and lots of drama. It falls short, however, in maintaining its focus over two intermissions and nearly two and half hours of dancing.

by Clementine Scott
- Jan 9, 2026
Opera as a whole may be too reliant on museum pieces, on endless identikit revivals designed to secure bums on seats. But in the case of Richard Eyre’s 1994 La traviata, the old adage might be true: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

by Martin Ganeider
- Nov 21, 2025
Fond memories erupt when we read the news about the Return of Disney's TARZAN at the STAGE NEUE FLORA in Hamburg. It's been a while since we followed the search for Tarzan and Jane in a Casting Show, filled with so many talented, aspiring artists. Vienna's Reign Opera Ghost, Anton Zetterholm, Winner of the TV-Competition, went out to be the first to wear the famous loincloth, followed by many other familiar faces. One of them is Alexander Klaws (the first to win the German Casting Show Deutschland sucht den Superstar), who returns to the role for selected dates only*.
Review: LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE, Royal Ballet And Opera
by Matthew Paluch
- Oct 2, 2025
Narrative ballet is hard, so anyone willing to go there deserves a medal regardless of the outcome. The Royal Ballet (mainstage) season opened last night with Christopher Wheeldon's 2022 Like Water for Chocolate. Based on the 1989 Laura Esquivel novel of the same name, the ballet is fundamentally a love story, and includes all the trials and tribulations that often come with it - with a heavy dose of mysticism and culinary explorations.
