Nyla is a singer, songwriter, and actress that aims to empower and inspire. Molded by the streets of Brooklyn, NYC and inspired by the bold and rebellious sounds of women like Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, and Etta James, her voice is raw and unfiltered. Pre Pandemic Nyla performed over 800 shows over two years touring as Peggy Schuyler in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton". Nyla also played as the iconic Dionne in James Vasquez' "Hair" at The Old Globe in SD. With two independently produced and published albums entitled Nyla Live (Nyla's debut album) and Spiritus Animalium (Nyla's first Visual Album). Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock musical Rent takes over Portland Center Stage hot off its 25th anniversary. Rent will be directed by PCS's Associate Artistic Director Chip Miller. It begins previews on May 21, opens on May 27, and runs through July 10 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. The production, originally slated to run through June 26, has already been extended due to strong ticket sales.
