The Dallas Opera will broadcast its 2024/2025 Season on WRR 101.1 FM’s Concert Hall program beginning August 25. Productions include La traviata, Pelléas et Mélisande, Orpheus and Eurydice, and La bohème, featuring international artists and Music Director Emmanuel Villaume.

La Secretaría de Cultura del Gobierno de México y el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), a través de la Compañía Nacional de Ópera, presentan por primera vez en México y América Latina la ópera Un re in ascolto (Un rey escucha), con música del célebre compositor italiano Luciano Berio y libreto del propio compositor, a partir de un cuento del influyente escritor Italo Calvino.

The Dallas Opera (TDO) will release selected operas from its past three seasons for free, on-demand viewing via its digital website and YouTube channel. Each production was recorded live at the Winspear Opera House and will be released by seasons May through November. All operas feature English subtitles.

Donizetti wrote more than six dozen operas in the course of around 30 years, so it must have been hard for him not to steal from himself. Still, it always strikes me during the overture to his great comedy L’ELISIR D’AMORE, whose run at the Met opened the other night, when I hear echoes of the oh-so-dramatic LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, which would come just a few years later. Yet, the similar music somehow works in both operas.
