Review: THE ART OF WAR Claims Victory at B St. Theatre
by Courtney Symes - Oct 3, 2025

Sun Tzu’s fifth-century military treatise, “The Art of War,” is powerful enough in its original form. Add humor, middle-aged couples, and fish, and you’ve got a clear winner. The world premiere stage adaptation of The Art of War by Dave Pierini is chock-full of scheming and surprises, making it one of the best B St. Theatre offerings of the season.

Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL at B St. Theatre Brings Contemporary Fun to a Classic
by Courtney Symes - Nov 27, 2024

It’s time again for a favorite holiday tradition – seeing the various Christmas shows that Sacramento has to offer. At the top of my list every year is A Christmas Carol. Dickens’s classic tale of avarice is one of the most produced works during the holidays, but few are like the version that is being offered at the B St. Theatre through December 29th. The world premiere of Sam Kebede’s adaptation features just three actors, original music, and some unique ghosts.

Interview: Amy Kelly Talks About Her Upcoming Album and ROBIN HOOD at the B St. Theatre
by Courtney Symes - Apr 16, 2024

One of the endearing aspects of the B Street Theatre is that you will always see familiar faces on stage. Their Company members comprise most of the roles in their shows, so it’s fun to watch them as different characters throughout the season. One such Company member, Amy Kelly, has gone from Mrs. Claus to a butler to a friar in a matter of months. She’s currently in B Street’s production of Robin Hood while recording as one half of the musical group Mustache & Cleavage. BroadwayWorld spoke to Amy about her favorite roles, mustaches, and her upcoming album.

Review: RESCUE ME Debuts at B Street Theatre
by Courtney Symes - Jan 26, 2024

Championing new works can be a risky undertaking, but B St. Theatre’s dedication to the cause continues to pay off. Kicking off the 2024 season is Rescue Me, a finalist in the 2022 B Street New Comedies Festival.  It is penned by two B Street fixtures, Tara Sissom-Pittaro and Peter Story, who infuse humor with introspection into two outwardly opposite individuals.
Review: THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG Does Everything Right at B Street Theatre
by Courtney Symes - Aug 16, 2023

You may have heard that back in the 20th century a guy by the name of Edward Murphy famously said, “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” Pessimistic? Maybe. Accurate? Definitely, as proven in B Street Theatre’s side-splitting rendition of The Play That Goes Wrong. This award-winning comedy written by members of the aptly named Mischief Theatre Company is a play within a play about things that go, well, wrong.
Review: See the Super Sleuths, MS. HOLMES & MS. WATSON: APT. 2B, at B Street Theatre
by Courtney Symes - Mar 18, 2023

Known for bringing exciting and groundbreaking new works to Sacramento, the B St. Theatre solidifies its reputation with its latest show of the season. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth and his trusty partner have undergone a complete 21st-century makeover in Kate Hamill’s modern reimagining of the classic stories. The Sherlock Holmes series first appeared in 1887 and quickly became a household name. Over one hundred years later, Hamill’s Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson: Apt 2B brings a fresh new take to stodgy Sherlock and his sidekick, Watson.
