Applications Open For Rhinebeck Writers Retreat Summer Residencies

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced applications are open for this summer. Nine musical theatre writing teams will be awarded nine consecutive weeklong residencies in the Hudson Valley between June 30 and September 1. Each team gets a private retreat to focus solely on writing their new musical. All writers are eligible and their musical can be at any stage of development. All costs are covered including travel up to $750, and each writer gets a $500 stipend. Writers with children are welcomed to apply. There is no fee for applications received by February 6 and there is a fee of $20 for the final deadline of February 16.  More information and the online application can be found at https://www.rhinebeckwriters.org/2019-residencies.

Singer-songwriter Colm Keegan of Celtic Thunder renown will bring a brand new solo show, 'The History of Ireland through Music,' to Rory Dolan's in Yonkers on March 6, 2019, at 7:30 PM. Keegan will combine a talk about Irish history with performance of songs associated with specific eras and major events throughout Irish history. He will give historical context to all of the songs in the show, and he will give his audiences new insight into the stories and the references in the songs.

If you're looking to enjoy some holiday cheer in the comfort of a toasty theater look no further than the Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center's production of the family favorite 'Annie.' Lavish sets by the masterful Patrick Grossman, a spacious house with a majority of plush red seats and some of the best talent on the island - this production is nothing less than you would expect from this company. Although there are multiple other companies also producing 'Annie' this season I must say this would be quite difficult to top.

Mental illness continues to have a stigma in this country and I applaud the Cultural Arts Playhouse for taking on a musical with such difficult and timely subject material. The passion this cast has for their production is evident through their dedication to diving head first into the emotional narrative and embodying characters faced with painful pasts, experiences and revelations.
