Premieres & Pairings Present Clarinetist Piercy & Pianist Yoon In Concert

Critically acclaimed clarinetist and hichiriki player Thomas Piercy continues his frequent concerts of premiering music composed for him by composers from around the world. The young composers in this concert come from Iran, France, China, Japan, and Thailand. The May 17th concert at Tenri Cultural Center will present seven premieres of solos and duos composed for clarinet/bass clarinet, hichiriki and piano. Pianist Jiung Yoon joins Mr. Piercy in these premieres as well as performing his own Piano Pairings: '...but I repeat myself...' a program of minimalist/repetivist piano music pairings.

Next month, musicians from Valley of the Moon Music Festival will offer a special preview performance of their fifth anniversary season celebrating Europe's powerful 19th century salonnières, women of power and influence who shaped the musical culture of their day. Hosted by the Madrone Estate at Valley of the Moon Winery in Glen Ellen, the concert on Sunday, May 19 highlights the relationship between Tchaikovsky and his eccentric patron Nadezhda von Meck. Ten of the world's finest quartets will compete for the most coveted prize in chamber music at the 13th Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC) in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Chosen by a preliminary jury of internationally celebrated musicians, these 10 quartets were selected from a competitive pool of applicants representing 5 of the world's 7 continents. They will showcase their exceptional skill during five rounds of intense competition from August 26 September 1, 2019. Carnegie Hall today announced that pianist Mitsuko Uchida must regretfully postpone her all-Schubert recital on Tuesday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage due to exhaustion. Following her doctor's recommendation, Ms. Uchida must withdraw from upcoming performances through April 30 to rest and recover. She thanks audiences for their understanding and looks forward to returning to Carnegie Hall on Saturday, May 4 at 8:00 p.m. to perform her second all-Schubert program as scheduled.

Carnegie Hall today announced that the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America(NYO-USA) will return to the BBC Proms in London for the first time since the orchestra's inaugural 2013 season, performing on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano will lead NYO-USA in Strauss's Eine Alpensinfonie and Berlioz's Les nuits d'été featuring mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and filmed for delayed viewing on BBC Four TV, to air on Friday, August 16.

Early Music Vancouver (EMV) celebrates 50 years of historically informed performance with the announcement of the 2019 Vancouver Bach Festival and 2019/20 Main Season.
