Newton's New Philharmonia Orchestra, led by Music Director Francisco Noya, will present American Fete, the third and final classical program of their 24th season. The orchestra will perform a mix of classical works created in America for American ensembles. Award winning, Julliard trained, young composer, Philippe Treuille, will premiere his new works, Nuptialis and Baptismus, on Saturday, May 18th, 2019, at the Church of the Incarnation in New York City. The premiere will feature 60 performers from the Long Island Choral Society and orchestra, conducted by maestro Meredith E. Baker. The two pieces blend traditional and modern compositional techniques with text drawn from the Latin liturgy and Song of Solomon.

The baritone Steven Eddy, a native of Laurel, MD, is the First Place winner of the Oratorio Society of New York's 2019 Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition. The awards to the eight finalists were announced by Competition Chairwoman Janet Plucknett following their performances in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, April 6. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center begins the month of May with Deeply Inspired—a program of pieces by composers from four eras and four cultures—featuring baritone Yunpeng Wang, pianist Michael Brown, violinists Kristin Lee and Danbi Um, violist Matthew Lipman, and cellists Nicholas Canellakis and David Finckel (May 3). Spring highlights include the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's Massarosa for Bassoon, Two Violins, Viola, and Cello with bassoonist Peter Kolkay and the Calidore Quartet(May 16); and the New York premiere of Andrew Norman's Escher for String Quartet performed by the Escher String Quartet (May 7). Both works are CMS co-commissions.

The Oratorio Society will conclude its 2018-19 Carnegie Hall season, which was expanded to four concerts from previous years' three, with Verdi's thrillingly dramatic Requiem, which premiered in Milan in 1874 and has since become one of the most-performed works in the symphonic choral canon. OSNY Music Director Kent Tritle leads the performance, which features the soloists Elizabeth de Trejo, soprano; Raehann Bryce-Davis, mezzo-soprano; Joshua Blue, tenor; and Adam Lau, bass, on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 8:00 pm.
