BSF Announces 2020 Season

Hampden-based Baltimore Shakespeare Factory's 2020 season will feature classic comedy, epic tragedy, and a US premiere. Opening with a timeless exploration of nationalism (Henry V), the season ramps up with one of Shakespeare's final triumphs presented as the Bard himself would have heard it (King Lear in Original Pronunciation), followed by a summer of clever and complicated comedy (Much Ado About Nothing and All's Well That Ends Well), and closing with the first English-language play ever published by a woman (The Tragedy of Mariam by Elizabeth Cary).

Baltimore Center Stage has announced a special event featuring a staged reading of Thornton Wilder's The Long Christmas Dinner, which will take place on Monday, December 16, 2019.  This one-night-only presentation of this revered classic features notable personalities with Baltimore ties in the classic roles of the Bayard Family during their 100-year-long Christmas dinner. The reading will serve as a launch-point for a post-performance conversation on the importance of family traditions, moderated by Artistic Director Stephanie Ybarra.

Bach In Baltimore Performs Handel's Messiah Twice In December

Bach in Baltimore announced today two performances of Handel's Messiah to welcome the Christmas season. The first performance is on Saturday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, located at 3604 Chatham Road in Ellicott City, and the second performance is on Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m. at St. Casimir's Church, located at 2800 O'Donnell Street in Baltimore. The national tour of Aladdin is coming to the Hippodrome as part of its Broadway Series in November, and it's certainly a performance you do not want to miss. With 337 costumes, 111 moving lights, and 38 tons of scenery, lighting, and effects suspended from the grid, it's no wonder that it takes 75 people to deliver the spectacle of this show on tour. To give you insight on what it takes to be in a show of this caliber, BroadwayWorld sat down with Zach Bencal, who has been in over 1000 performances of Aladdin as Babkak, one of the street urchin's friends.
