The Divine Sister is a campy, gender-bending comedy by Charles Busch, the creator of Psycho Beach Party, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, and The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, directed by Steve Goldklang. The production is a riotously funny homage to Hollywood melodrama and every over-the-top nun movie ever made, blending satire, farce, and loving tribute. Inspired by films such as The Sound of Music, Agnes of God, and the irreverent spirit of John Waters, the show explores religious visions, forbidden love, and crises of faith. Vagabond Players presents the production as part of its 110th Season and in celebration of Pride Month.
THE DIVINE SISTER is a devilishly funny. It is a fun, comedic, irreverent, and enthralling. It's unlike any of the works that inspired it. The play will seem vaguely familiar at times, but it stands on its own as uniquely creative!
In a world of change and confusion, some essential truths will always remain. Chief among these truths is this: Campy, irreverent, John Waters-style comedy will always have a home in Baltimore. Its current place of residence: Vagabond Players’ 110th season closer, The Divine Sister.
Vagabond Players will present Charles Busch's The Divine Sister, a gender-bending comedy directed by Steve Goldklang, to close its 110th season and celebrate Pride Month in Baltimore's Fells Point.
Vagabond Players closes its 110th Season with Charles Busch’s THE DIVINE SISTER, directed by Steve Goldklang. The wildly campy production will convert audiences into believers with an outrageous send-up of every over-the-top nun movie ever made.
