Punch Line Comedy Club
6/26-6/29/2014
In a raucous stand up career spanning 25 years and 7 continents, Tom Rhodes has been on HBO, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and filmed two half hour specials for Comedy Central "Comedy Central presents…Tom Rhodes". Tom was also the host of his own late night talk show in Amsterdam for Dutch television. Tom is one of those rare exotic creatures who has dedicated his life to stand-up comedy. Starting out at the tender age of 17, in Orlando, Florida he was soon touring the Southern United States and up the eastern seaboard to New York City. But it wasn't until Tom moved to San Francisco, that he discovered his comedic "voice". There in the city he describes as "The Jerusalem of Stand-Up Comedy" he was discovered by Comedy Central. Tom was given the channel's first ever development deal contract which led to his critically acclaimed hour special "Viva Vietnam! : A White Trash Adventure Tour". The following year at the Montreal Comedy Festival he was "discovered" again, this time by NBC who gave him his own sitcom on the network called "Mr. Rhodes" where Tom played a rebel teacher in a stuffy prep school trying to inspire revolution in his students. The sitcom was short lived but Tom took his "NBC artist's grant money" and moved to New York City to rededicate his life to the art of Stand-up comedy. As Tom's horizons broadened he found himself regularly performing in London, which led to many other engagements in the Comedy clubs scattered across Europe. While performing in Amsterdam he was seen by the Dutch television network, Yorin , who gave him his own late night talk show entitled "The Kevin Masters Show : starring Tom Rhodes". The much loved show ran for 2 years with Tom interviewing Holland's biggest celebrities and experiencing every aspect of the unique Dutch culture. At the end of the show's run the same network gave Tom a travel show named "Yorin Travel" where he got to film highlights on Peru, Russia, France and the Dutch Caribbean. Tom's lovable personality and warm charm have won him fans all across the globe. He continues to perform regularly in Asia, Australia, Europe, and all across the United States. Pretty much anywhere there is a comedy microphone plugged in.

Big Idea Theatre

Danny's complex new drama about an African-American family struggling to leave the projects has just been selected for the nation's preeminent play festival. But Danny, a young white, gay playwright, submitted his work under a pseudonym in the hope of increasing its chances for production. So he hires Emilie, a black actress, to stand in for him as author. What starts out as a questionable idea pulls Danny, Emilie, Danny's boyfriend, and his best friend down a path littered with truth, lies, revelation, and betrayal. This whip-smart, fearless and funny new play takes an unflinching look at the quiet prejudice that exists within us all.

Now Playing Onstage in Sacramento - Week of 6/22/2014 KORBEL V: THE SECRET
Dell'Arte International
6/19-7/6/2014
The 2014 MRF will kick off with this year's mainstage production Korbel V: The Secret. The Humboldt County saga of the ill-fated Dugan family is back in Dell'Arte's Rooney Amphitheatre with live music and comedy guaranteed. With a can of beer in one hand and a second can in the other, Michael Fields returns to the stage this summer as Tommy Dugan in an all-new sequel to the Dell'Arte Company's popular 'Korbel' series. Written by playwright and director Lauren Wilson, Korbel V: The Secret catches up with Tommy seventeen years after the mill laid him off, the bank foreclosed on his house, and his mother stuck her head in a microwave oven. He is living in the woods in a derelict trailer, when he learns that the Korbel Timber Company is closing for good and evicting the workers' families from company housing. Inflamed by this affront to his sense of justice and surrounded by the ghosts of the past, Tommy struggles against himself, his ex-wife and his entire backwoods community to become the hero the town needs. Korbel V: The Secret is a comic glimpse of life amidst economic disaster, a comic tribute to one flawed human being hoping to help his community.

Now Playing Onstage in Sacramento - Week of 6/22/2014 TWO DUMB DOGS
Sutter Street Theatre
6/7-7/6/2014
This hilarious comedy has lessons that include discovering self-confidence, using your brain and recognizing that following rules is sometimes a good thing. Ferdo and Floof are two not-very-bright dogs-well…at least not to your average fifth grader. The dogs strongly desire to break the rules of their owner, Roger, and constantly get into trouble in the process. Their adventures take them on a trip to seek fame and fortune on their own. They enter the enchanted forest-despite the warnings of the wise old owl-and encounter a cursed prince who has been turned to stone by the terribly wicked Queen Malevella; a hapless poodle Mimi and the legendary Dog Shouter. Ferdo and Floof must rally their brainpower to release the prince and escape from the queen's dungeon. This is fun for the entire family.

Now Playing Onstage in Sacramento - Week of 6/22/2014 ALL MY SONS
Sutter Street Theatre
6/13-7/14/2014
During the war Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father's partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.

Stockton Civic Theatre
6/25-7/20/2014
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT was the Tony Award Winner in 2005 for Best Musical. Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table, and featuring a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people, Monty Python's SPAMALOT "raises silliness to an art form" (The Sunday Times) and has been hailed as "a no-holds-barred smash hit." (The New Yorker)
