Now Playing Onstage in Phoenix - Week of 3/10/2013 GUYS & DOLLS
SALPOINTE CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
3/16-3/24/2013
Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy - soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiance, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.Everything works out in the end, thanks to the machinations of Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling's hilarious, fast-paced book and Frank Loesser's bright, brassy, immortal score, which takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Funny and romantic, GUYS AND DOLLS is ideal for audiences and performers of any age.

THE KING AND I
Grace Arts Live
3/8-3/24/2013
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story. In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the magic and beauty of the original are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production. PLEASE NOTE: All schools wishing to peruse or perform a G2K musical should apply through theaeHal Leonard Corporation by contactingaegettingtoknow@halleonard.com. Now Playing Onstage in Phoenix - Week of 3/10/2013 MUSICAL OF MUSICALS
Theater Works
3/5-4/7/2013
June can't pay the rent. Will the evil landlord evict her? Can her handsome leading man come to the rescue? It's an oft-told tale - and in MUSICAL OF MUSICALS it's told five more times - in the styles of America's greatest musical-makers! Rodgers & Hammerstein might place the story with a Dream Ballet on the wide open plains, Jerry Herman might have a splashy star like his Dolly or Mame. Andrew Lloyd Webber would like make a pop musical of it, and Kander & Ebb would place it in a seedy Cabaret in Chicago. Sondheim would take a darker, more modern edge - perhaps Sunday in the Park with Sweeney Todd. MUSICAL OF MUSICALS is great fun, whether you're a devotee of the form or just like a tuneful, funny, rollicking good time!
