SOME ENCHANTED EVENING - THE SONGS OF RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN
Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma
1/30-2/16/2013
More so than any composer and lyricist who have written for the stage, the songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein have become an integral part of our everyday lives. We sing them in the shower, we dance to them in ballrooms, we hear them on the radio and in clubs and, yes, in elevators and supermarkets too. We still thrill to them on the live stage in their respective shows, and we teach them to our children. This stunning collection of compositions places five performers in a theatrical setting-first 'backstage,' where the songs are sung as personal interplay, and then 'onstage.' While offering the performers an opportunity to explore the songs within their own styles and sensibilities, it offers the audience a glorious parade of genuine hits.Music by Rodgers, Richard; Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II; Concept by Jeffrey B. Moss; For Jerry Kravat Entertainment Services, Inc.

CINDERELLA (ENCHANTED EDITION)
Bixby High School
2/14-2/16/2013
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. This Enchanted Edition is based on the 1997 teleplay.Music by Rodgers, Richard; Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II; Adapted for the Stage by Tom Briggs; From the Teleplay by Robert L. Freedman

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS
East Central University
2/14-2/16/2013
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea,' you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that it may not have been the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of beguiling songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are, you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again. In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger actors and audiences, but all the magic, hilarity and fun of the original are still in place. G2K? ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is the perfect show to introduce young people to the magic of live theater. PLEASE NOTE: All schools wishing to peruse or perform a G2K musical should apply through the_Hal Leonard Corporation by contacting_gettingtoknow@halleonard.com. Now Playing Onstage in Oklahoma - Week of 2/10/2013 CRIMES OF THE HEART
OKC Theatre Company
2/8-2/17/2013
This Pulitzer Prize winning play graces the stage in February 2013. CRIMES OF THE HEART follows the story of the tragically and hilariously flawed Magrath sisters who are reunited when the youngest, Babe, is on the verge of a meltdown. A sentimental and rib-tickling comment on womanhood, the affect of childhood tragedy on the adult life, and the power of sisterhood. "It has heart, wit and a surprisingly zany passion that must carry all before it...it would certainly be a crime for anyone interested in the theatre not to see this play." -NY Post. "From time to time a play comes along that restores one's faith in our theatre..." -NY Magazine.
