Carrie Underwood Teases Starring In New SOUND OF MUSIC

Carrie Underwood Teases Starring In New SOUND OF MUSICCountry music mega-star and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood has opened up about her leading role in NBC's upcoming live TV broadcast of Rodgers & Hammerstein's celebrated classic THE SOUND OF MUSIC in a new interview.

Underwood relates, "It's a giant challenge, which I appreciate." And, as for the live element? "Everybody keeps saying, 'People don't do this anymore, singing live!'" she says.

Underwood remarks that Julie Andrews, the star of the original film adaptation, "just has this royal air," and she does not intend to mimic the icon in the forthcoming film, reportedly set for a Christmas airing.

She concludes, "I think once people tune in and realize that [our version] is not a remake, they won't compare it to the movie."

Earlier this year, I spoke to SOUND OF MUSIC executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron about the upcoming project, with Meron amping up the anticipation even further: "Well, the thing we are looking forward to most is at the end of the year, which is THE SOUND OF MUSIC, starring Carrie Underwood, on NBC. We are very excited about that," he said. Check out the entire conversation here.

Underwood previously performed the title tune from THE SOUND OF MUSIC in 2007 (albeit a bit under the weather). Check out her MOVIES ROCK performance of it below.
