Ailey Extension to Host Dance & Fitness Classes this Summer

Looking for a fun and educational experience for your kids this summer? Try one of The Ailey Extension's summer class offerings for kids of all ages and interests starting in June. Tiny Steps, a unique experience for 2-year-olds, Hip-Hop 4 Kids (ages 7-11), and the Teen Extension Summer Series (ages 12-17), will all be offered in two four-week long sessions starting June 1st and June 29th. Cardio Cool Kids (ages 7-11), will take place every Saturday in June. For aspiring dancers there will be a variety of Guest Artist workshops as well as the two-week long Ailey Experience (ages 12-18) and Fabrice Herrault's Ballet Intensive (ages 10-19) from August 4th - 15th.

Tiny Steps celebrates children's natural ability to move in expressive ways in a series of music and creative movement classes for toddlers two to three years of age and their caregivers. Instructors will guide participants through fun, playful dance exercises accompanied by live music, developing the child's body awareness and control while exploring his or her own creativity, increasing understanding of the connection between dance, rhythm and music.

For students ages 7-11, the Extension will offer Hip-Hop 4 Kids, and Cardio Cool Kids. Hip-Hop 4 Kids teaches students the fundamentals of Hip-Hop movement including basic body isolations, precision, performance quality and choreography. Cardio Cool Kids is a fun new way to bring dance and fitness to kids for a creative total body workout infused with both cardio and strength training.

The Teen Extension Summer Series offers students ages 12-17 a diverse range of dance classes including Ballet, Hip-Hop, West African and Samba/Afro-Brazilian. These weekly classes will be taught by renowned instructors in a "no-pressure" environment that allows students to gain confidence not only in their dancing abilities, but in themselves.

The Ailey Experience and Fabrice Herrault's Ballet Intensive give aspiring dancers the opportunity to experience what it's like to train professionally, culminating in a performance at the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's home - the largest center dedicated to dance in New York City - the dance capital of the world. The Ailey Experience students learn from top instructors and experience three daily classes in a variety of techniques including Ballet, Horton, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, West African and more. Students will also attend meet and greets with former Ailey Company members, receive Ailey souvenirs and discounted tickets to Broadway shows. Dancers of all levels are also welcome to audition for renowned ballet instructor Fabrice Herrault's acclaimed workshop which includes daily ballet technique classes, guest teachers, and weekly reviews of ballet films and choreography.

The Extension will also offer Guest Artist workshops to students of all ages. On June 14th Lane Napper, actor and current head choreographer for Nickelodeon's hit show "Victorious," will lead a Commercial Dance workshop for students ages 12-17. Lane's fun and invigorating style, energy and flare have made him one of the most sought after and coveted teachers on the film and television scene today. Some of Lane's choreography can be seen on television shows such as, "iCarly", "Drake and Josh", "Zoey 101", "Suddenly Susan", and "Nikki". Additional workshops will be announced throughout the summer.
