Time is precious on the road to the Jimmy Awards, and no time was wasted on Day 2 as John and Shelby hit the ground running at 7:30am. Their first full day included vocal rehearsal, dancing, a costume parade, surprise guests and some really good news! John and Shelby were both selected to be in the medley group for the Jimmy Awards. In addition, Shelby will be working with Broadway Director, Schele Kleinberger and John will be coached by Broadway veteran, Michael McElroy. Looks like their week is off to a great start!

The winners of Colorado's Bobby G Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor (Austin Hand) and Actress (Elleon Dobias) are currently in New York City as finalists for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards), which recognizes excellence in high school musical theatre across the nation.

John and Shelby will participate in a week-long training intensive with Broadway industry professionals and faculty members of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, in preparation for their Broadway debut on Monday, June 26th at the Minskoff Theatre.

In celebration of outstanding achievement in high school musical theater performances, Broadway In Chicago has announced the award recipients of the Sixth Annual Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards: Justin Smusz of Bolingbrook, IL (Benet Academy) as BEST ACTOR for his portrayal of Chad in ALL SHOOK UP and Carly Meyer of Northbrook, IL (Glenbrook North High School) as BEST ACTRESS for her portrayal of Hodel in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. More than 400 Nebraska high school students will converge on downtown Omaha June 5 to June 8 to participate in Omaha Performing Arts' Nebraska High School Theatre Awards week.

The Minty Organization, the non-profit company which oversees The Minty Awards, held its biggest ceremony of the year, The 7th Annual Minty Awards, Sunday, June 4 at the historic St. George Theatre.  Over 1,100 attended the ceremony honoring excellence among the Staten Island Catholic High School's musical theatre productions.

Following highly skilled performances by competitors on May 21, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announced the winners of its fifth annual Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards as Adelynn Tourondel from Green Valley High School and Nathan Sink from Centennial High School.

Named for local Broadway star Tom Wopat, the Tommy Awards Program at Overture Center for the Arts encourages, recognizes and honors excellence in high school musical theater each year and culminates in an annual awards show in Overture Hall. The 8th Annual Awards Tommy Awards Show will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and will go on sale to the public Monday, May 22 at 11 a.m.
